Dearest Team,

I think I’ve sussed out the room acoustics but would like my findings reviewed to see if there’s anything else I’m missing.

Here is my room. KEF R7 Meta with REL S510 tucked away in the corner next to FL. For the purpose of this assessment I wanted to focus only on the FL and FR (Stereo) setup with the Sub turned off.

Below is entire setup.

I’ve been struggling with (on several speaker setups over the years) massive suck out at 120hz and was convinced it was caused by SBIR from the front wall (and sidewall next to FL). Distance from drivers were both 70cm so it tended to fit the model. It seems I may have been wrong all along.

I tried moving the speakers back against the wall 10cm and it had next to no input on the suck out whatsoever. It made me wonder if it was a Room Mode bouncing off the back wall behind my head.

Shifted the Mic 20cm forward towards the speakers and eh-voila! The suckout on FL shifted down to about 90hz. Annoyingly it also invited a new major suckout on the FR at the same time.

Below are the SPL graphs for both FL and FR;

I have purchased 3x SlatFusor 4S (600x1200) from GIK Acoustics to cover much of the rear wall.

It seems there might also be a little bit of SBIR when comparing original measurements vs to moving the speaker back 10cm towards the wall.

What do the experts amongst us think and any recommendations for what I should be putting behind the speakers and/or sidewall next to the FL speaker please?

Here to learn and loving the journey already.

Best Wishes, Matt

Is it possible that the cancellations between 100-200hz are floor bounce and room/wall combined?

I've set up broadband absorption on the listening wall in a narrow room before and it greatly improved things.

You might be absolutely right. I’ve got some absorption for the rear wall arriving today and some prepped for behind the speakers and corner next week.

Let’s see what happens!
