Hey,

Have purchased a new processor and while waiting for that to arrive, I am trying to read various articles and taking another look at the panel placement in the room and trying to understand more about acoustics, the more I read there more it feels like I don't know what I'm doing. The subject of acoustics is so complex I'm getting lost in the weeds. It also looks like I failed to treat the first reflection points at all after checking where they are with a mirror, I think one of the problems at the moment is not really placing any of the panels are "ear" and speaker level.

Below is information about the room:
  1. Width - 3640mm
  2. Height - 2275mm
  3. Front-Back - 3085mm
  4. Behind front stage is 4" GIK 244 White acoustic panels, behind that is 4" rockwool slabs, the Right speaker has 400mm depth of rockwool behind it and the Left about 1.1 meters of it, and behind that is "eaves" storage area which is not used.
  5. The picture where I've labelled "Brick Wall" is the divider wall between houses in this semi-detached house and is a solid brick wall
  6. The Back Right area of the room with the Black fabric has a brick chimney there, I've surrounded 2 sides of it with 2-4" of rockwool.
  7. Either side of the Left and Right of the room are "eaves" storage areas about 1m in width running the length of the room and past the front stage

Below is equipment:
  1. 7 x Adam A8X monitors
  2. 4 x Adam A4V monitors
  3. 2 x SVS SB3000
  4. Arcam AV41 (will change to miniDSP Tide16 when it arrives)
  5. 4 x Behringer DEQ2496 processors for bed layer DSP

The issues at the moment are:
  1. General advice about respositioning the panels.
  2. Ultra, ultra, ultra tight sweet spot, despite having speakers with wide dispersion tweeters, if I move my head even a fraction I notice the image shift.
  3. If I lower crossovers to use the mains more as they can down to around 50hz, and test bass content, the "Door" area always has noticeably more bass, this quickly diminishes if I move my head forward about 5 inches or so, if putting multiple bass traps in that corner does not fix it.
  4. The Rear Height Left speaker sounds noticeably more "boomy" than the others, the Rear Height Right does a bit as well but not a much.

Below is pictures of the room in the current state:

That is quite a set up you have put together, I hope someone here can help you, I would be glad to, but I only have 2 speakers in my listening room, so managing all those speakers, too many to count, is way above my pay grade.
Good luck.

Thank you, at the moment the speakers are all very close to room boundaries, I have taken all the side and rear acoustic panels out of the room, and rotated the bed 90 degrees with the headboard against the back wall, now with some power lead extensions and XLR extensions I plan to have a play about repositioning all the bed layer speakers (except the center) around the bed, time aligning them and see what kind of imaging I can get, I will also try the side surrounds at 80'ish degrees a bit forward instead of 90, also interested in MLP distance from speakers, trying to see if I can match the physical distances of the various speakers to the MLP more which means bringing the speakers more into the room away from the boundaries.

Messing around with speaker placement:

  1. Have not timed aligned the heights yet so not test them.
  2. Surround back speakers are 120 degrees so correctly placed for 5.1 surrounds and not in the correct 135-150 area for surround backs.

Only managed to do some lower level brief listening's tests with bed layer and no subs, imaging doesn't seem to be all that different, I think the speakers overall naturally sound better without having done any correction at all.
