Got it! And thanks. Part 1 and 2 cover the most of it now I discover. Just don’t get trapped in the SPL hole! Otherwise I took a couple samples of one speaker to test. It’s working. Lol. Thanks all

Hello.
To measure the room I am clear about which mic to choose, but what mic do you use to measure the response in headphones?
Is it a good idea to use the tuned Audyssey mic?

Obviously not scientific at all, just to play a bit at home.

Regards!!!

That’s actually a really good question. I’m sure you could prob use that mic.. or even the umik. But, the question I guess is are those mics sensitive enough for it. Look into IMM-6. I saw that quickly.. maybe that would be a good one!? Would really need to be a quiet room! Ha ha great question tho!

The downside of this mic is that it is designed for mobile devices. I mean for REW and Headphones.

Again, to be clear.. I said the umik might work. But, it’s like asking what size hammer for the small nail? Yes, the one that’s 5 times larger will work, but might also smash your fingers. The smaller hammer would work better, and more fitting to the situation. (Right tool right job) And if your going to do small things, I would prob suggest it.
Just as our UMIK mics state clearly for room correction/full size speakers An REW use.. you want to take that and use it for slightly different task. It may work.. But... Something so small a driver with little to no power, I would think that our UMIK will not be the best choice, but sure it may work.. Rather the small mic I showed you might make more sense. As well, I did say check this out, not saying that’s a 100% match. Just want to be very clear for you, and not confuse. Sensitivity is going to play a huge roll here.

I would search this out “calibrating headphones” and see what you get. Might help you more, then hopping someone sees this, more so in a post for something entirely different. Being such a good question, I would create your own post, in the proper area asking just this! You may find a better response. Again, it’s a great question.. that I hope get answers and in the right spot for others to see. Think this is the first I’ve heard someone wanting to do such a task! I would be very curious to see the results! Maybe when you figure it out, you could make a quick step by step for others!!

good luck!!

Yes, I know those types of gadgets!
But those are serious things, I just want to play and experiment a little. If it is very cheap or free, better.
I leave that to the experts.
I'm testing the audyssey and will be looking to make a fitting for the headphone cup.

If I get something good I will let you all know.

Followed this tutorial from Roon Community - - > https://community.roonlabs.com/t/a-guide-how-to-do-room-correction-and-use-it-in-roon/23800

1. Measured Left speaker (LS)
2. Measured Right speaker (RS)
3. Pressed EQ having focus on LS
4. In the equalizer window selected:
4a. “Var smoothing” from options
4b. Selected “Generic” equalizer
4c. Selected “None” as speaker
4d. Pressed “Set target level” text
4e. Finally pressed “Match response to target”
5. Repeated steps 3 - 4e for RS.
6. In REW's main window, selected menu “File -> Export -> Export filter impulse response as wav”.
7. In Roon:
7a. Settings - Audio - Select Device – DSP Engine – Convolution - Load Wav-file created in step 6.

Result: Extremely distorted sound ... :-(

I also got distortions….so much that I though I blew the tweeters

They were not completed, but there are other tutorials online. I have found some of these forums useful:

Where do you put the microphone, with Dirac, on the "back" positions when the seat is a sofa against a wall?. Already the main listening position is barely 45 centimeters from the wall, the minimum distance from a wall required by Dirac.

Skip those measurements. ;)

General question about measuring, I hope this is the right place to post this question.

All the advice about measuring suggests leaving the room when the measurement is being taken (apart from moving microphone about method obvs). I get that the signals can be loud, but I always listen to my music with a great lump of meat in between the speakers i.e. me. Surely this will have a substantial effect on the measured response?

Yes unless you are sitting between the mic and the speaker you should be fine. Any measurement that requires you to leave the room is a fanciful practice that misunderstands what kind of nuance matters and what kind doesn't.

In the first measure, the most important, the mike has to be between your ears, so you can not be there, right?. But you want to be there and your body will be reflecting sounds, right? The other measures have to be run under similar conditions. Nevertheless, pay way more attention to setting up the speakers volume and specially the sub/s

Hi All,
I recently received a Umik-1 for Christmas and would like to know how best to use this device with REW to integrate a pair of subwoofers and room correct. I am running my speakers and subs through a miniDSP 2x4 (subs are thus passive, but use miniDSP for crossover and a Crown 1002 for power.) It appears that @amirm did not complete part 3, where he would explain how to use measurements, although he expressed skepticism regarding the manner in which other forums had articulated the correct procedures for correction on the grounds that much of this information was not grounded in modern psychoacoustics, but instead was informed by the outdated scatter-shot approach of the 70s.

So:
(1) Are there any resources that people would advise reading/watching today?
(2) Is there anything that proceeds in the nice, easy, step-by-step fashion of these 'for dummies' guides that people would recommend?
(3) Are there any pieces of advice that those here who have played with REW and Umik would like to pass on?
(4) Finally, @amirm , is there any chance you will finish this series, or do you think this no longer necessary because this information is now available elsewhere?
Thanks,
Pugs

Do you have Roon?
I was about to do this myself and was reading about REW here and here and here. Lots of stuff. Also - search for REW + Roon on You TUBE

Hi Dennis,
I don't have Roon, or indeed know anything about it. Any particular reason for exploring this program? I generally stream from iTunes from a laptop, if that matters...
