Ok so my room is 13x11x10 feet. I have been using 2.0 without acoustics but cant hear dialogue much even at 70 volume. Now want to start in acoustics and for front wall behind speakers chosen 5 inches thick 2feetx4feet panel. My question is it has rockwool density only 40. I will be setting subwoofer crossover frequency at 80hz. So from 80hz to 400hz will this density be enough or not? Also there are wooden gates to sides of both speakers does that gate also need some panel?

It's not whether it's "good" or "bad", it's whether it is appropriate or not. And without measurements, nobody can tell you whether it's what you need.

Some more information to give us a guide as to why you can't hear dialogue would help. What equipment are you using? What does it sound like?

I have a mix of first reflection point panels and bass traps in my room but I could hear dialogue perfectly well before installing any of them and you should be able to as well...

The speakers are kind of important too :).

The simplest tweak if if you haven't tried this already would be to just try increasing the centre channel level by a couple of dB. You are definitely getting sound from the centre channel, right?

Is it better or worse with Audyssey in use? I forget the name right now but there is also an Audyssey EQ effect that is on by default that can harm dialogue intelligibility a bit but which you can disable with the (paid for) Audyssey MultiEQ App. Something to look into.

Oh, well in that case adding a centre channel speaker would be a better idea than worrying about acoustic room treatments, and by a huge margin!

Are you absolutely certain that the centre channel signal is being sent to your current speakers though? Find a 5.1 test on e.g. YouTube to check.
