What do you go to the movies for? I thought it was called Entertainment.

If I was looking for life lessons I wouldn't be looking
to those idiots in La La Land. They can't even find the planes they
promised to leave the country on last month! :p

What are your Top 10 sci fi movies of all time?

Top 10?

I like 2001 and 2010...

The Day the Earth Stood Still, both old and new.

Gojira.

I can watch Ex-Machina again, and I just did.

1984 if that qualifies as sci-fi

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Kirk Douglas

BladeRunner, which I didn't see until 2011. I'm too patient sometimes.

One more... uh...

In what century? :D Sort of in time order.
We could debate if some of these are sci fi or just plain horror.
Trying to avoid "me toos" or taking all day to compose but can't ignore Star Wars/Trek
SciFi/Horror comprises 90%+ of my movie interests.

Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula - Universal franchise pre 1950
The Blob
From the Earth to the Moon
Forbidden Planet
The Abominable Dr Phibes 1&2 (Vincent Price was the King!)
All the Star Wars franchise
All the Star Trek franchise maybe except IV (ST saves Flipper, blah)
The Fifth Element
Jurassic Park
Deadpool
Avatar

But if we really want to talk Space Western, Cowboy Bebop is the best.
Starship Troopers 1, An absolute blast to watch.

Oh, yeah, I forgot the Fifth Element.

Do superhero movies count as sci fi?

Ugggh...worst movie adaptation of a sci-fi book that I can think of. Heinlein must have rolled in his grave.
Never read BOOKS! They spoil the movie for you. ;)
Last book I read was Godfather and it dang near spoiled one of the best movies of all times.
But really, didn't you find Troopers fun? That and Denise Richards/Dina Meyers bring smokin hot sex appeal to the screen.

The Space Marines are supposed to be wearing powered armor.

They're armed with jump packs, flame throwers, and even shoulder launched nukes. When they land on a planet they're spread miles apart, because that's how big their kill zone is. They enter from orbit in individual capsules, because each one is a one-man army.

The movie got that completely wrong.

Verhoeven also completed butchered the social aspect. It was supposed to be a commentary on the role of the franchise, the right to vote, at a time of war. He just simplified it into a Nazi spoof with guys walking around in SS style uniforms.

Can't leave
Dr Who
off this compilation even if it is TV.
Pre 2005 series are still the best in the main. MHO

You are such a cheat, Sal. First you combine the whole Star Wars franchises into a single choice and now you're including TV series.

Just happened to be watching the 2014 Dr Who Christmas special I recorded right now.
The Dr (Peter Capaldi) just said,

"You know what the problem is in telling fantasy and reality apart?
They're both ridiculous." :D
