As mentioned above, I attended an appointment-only session by Avalon. What caught my eye was attendance of my old professional colleague, "Professor" Keith Johnson of the Spectral and Reference Recordings fame.

For a minute I thought, "wait...didn't he pass way?"

Then I realized I was thinking of Doug Sax, my other favorite mastering engineer. RIP, Doug.

Avalon acoustics and spectral audio: Liszt: Études D'exécution Transcendante, S. 139: No. 5 In B-Flat Major, "Feux Follets" by Minoru Nojima.

Keith had recorded this one also in the far-field. He wanted this to play softly as a result to simulate what you would hear if you were sitting in the same seat. It was too low of a level for me to appreciate it. But I appreciated what he was trying to do. :)

This is one of the best piano recordings I have for reference speaking testing. The recording is amazing.

On the other hand, as good as the recording is, the performance is hum drum. Classic audiophile, from that POV.

CH Precision. They took requests so I chimed in for them to play the Yello album that was sitting there. They were reluctant to do so but did play it: Kiss In Blue by Yello Feat. Heidi Happy. https://shz.am/t50880571

Quite pleasant. Highs a bit crisp. Softer dynamics for sure compared to digital.

CH Precision, Xacto: Baby I Can't Exist by Wild Child Butler. https://shz.am/t57667846

This is a different song from the same album:

Nice raspiness in vocal. This type of music was a much better match to the music than the modern albums.

Wilson speakers, Constellation audio:
Why I Sing The Blues by Lee Ritenour's 6 String Theory Feat. Lee Ritenour & B.B. King & Jonny Lang & Keb' Mo' & Vince Gill. https://shz.am/t52690244

Nice music from one of my favorite singers, Keb' Mo'.

Excellent clarity.

Daedelous: Woody And Dutch On The Slow Train To Peking by Rickie Lee Jones. https://shz.am/t501273

They big boxes below the speakers are actually part of it and provide extra air space. They come separate and you bolt them together. There is a hole in the middle. It put the mid and high frequency drivers at ear level which was a nice bonus.

On this content, it sounded a bit bright but might be in the source.

Daedalous: Ride Across The River by Dire Straits. https://shz.am/t5165372

There is Dire Straits again. :)

Good dynamics. Vocals were nice but height wise they were above my head which is a bit natural. This is a trait I find in very tall speakers.
