RME Totalmix into SoundSource for EQ?

Hi all,

I use an RME Fireface 400 and a Mac mini. Worried this might be a dumb question, but I want to route the signal from the FF400 mic pres from Totalmix into SoundSouce to apply EQ before sending the signal back to the FF400 and out to monitors.

Totalmix appears in the app list on SoundSource, but no signal from Totalmix is registered at all.

Wondering if this is because I'm routing wrong in Totalmix, or because I've misunderstood what Totalmix is, and what SoundSource does.

Very grateful for any help.

Many thanks,

James

I do not know soundforce, so cannot provide specific support, however...

Can you chose specific FF inputs (e.g. analog in 5 and 6) and outputs (e.g. analog 1 and 2) in soundforce?

Try routing the signal from Totalmix to a virtual cable like Rogue Amoeba's "Loopback" app or Blackhole 2ch (free). Assign the virtual cable as the output device within Totalmix and route that into Soundsource, add your EQ and use Soundsource to route to the appropriate audio output.

I do this sort of routing for my turntable>phono pre>ADC>USB into computer>processing>USB back to DAC.

Thanks but sadly no - just general system input which can’t be EQed

Thanks for this - sounds promising. I also want to do this for my turntable. Currently using Audio Hijack but want to reduce clutter by using an app that’s menu bar only like SoundSource. Will give this a try.

So I tried this and get Blackhole as an input in SoundSource, but there is no option to route the input to the output, so I can’t apply EQ to the signal.

Can I ask, what’s the ‘processing’ in your routing?

Did you route audio output to Blackhole within the Totalmix preferences?

I'm doing something a little more complicated because my 3-way speakers + 2 subs are all controlled via computer and active crossovers with an 8ch DAC. The analog audio signal converted by my ADC is treated like any other source and routed through EQ and XO before sending back to DAC. I'm using Hang Loose Convolver to host plugins for IIR and FIR filters and my channel routing but I do use SoundSource to assign different apps to go to main listening speakers or the desktop set up.

Not familiar with Totalmix but I'm able to route audio from Roon or from the Moto software for my AVB.

Ah ok, looks like your routing is similar to mine, only you use Hang Loose where I use Audio Hijack.

Not sure I’ll going to do what I want with SoundSource as whatever happens there will be no way to route the input to the output.

What I’d like is an app like Audio Hijack that - like SoundSource - lives on the menu bar, not the dock.

As I said, I use Soundsource as well and in conjunction with other apps, not sure if your settings in Totalmix are set up correctly.

in Soundsource select Totalmix in the menu
Assign the output to Blackhole
in Totalmix select Blackhole as the input

Oh I see, though I can’t find a way to set black hole as input in Totalmix
