RME ADI2 DAC FS. What is the right streamer to go with it. ?

My guess is home consumer market hasn't been their priority as opposed to professional users.
Mostly it’s aimed at pro. Users. And studio. This is their attempt to get onto home music. Otherwise people tend to call it as the best headphone amp.

When I used the Wiim app I could stream from Qobuz just fine, but there was no easy playback option for my local music. When I use Audirvana and Wiim mini as a UPnP device I can steam local as well as Qobuz but the UPnP code is so bad (with anything but Wiim's app) that it gets mixed up, stops playing tunes, won't start the next song... it's a mess. Every new Wiim firmware update had UPnP issues. I finally gave up.

On the other hand, RPi4 with Moode used as a UPnP streamer is ROCK SOLID with Audirvana. Move from song to song, or start a playlist with absolutely no issues. In addition, Moode has gotten amazingly easy to setup. I attach a $22 Samsung Fit USB3 256GB flash drive to the RPi4 and it can stream days of music at startup without even connecting a computer. It's a totally amazing feature!

If you want to control what's playing on Moode simply log in to the IP from any device (or set a bookmark) and change the music. No need to worry any longer about what the next Wiim update will break. I have three Wiim pucks in my junk drawer now and all I use is RPi4's with Moode.

The Moode playlist looks fantastic compared to the small Wiim display and is super easy to navigate. In addition, I can easily add music to the RPi4 using Moode without ever leaving my seat. I don't need a NAS running and the RPi4 uses a total of 6W according to Kill-A-Watt even with the flash drive attached. For me, the Moode interface and it's advanced features are far superior to my Wiim pucks.

Excellent. Review here by your user experience.

Hi,
It really depends on what you want. I tried the Wiim products and they are OK as long as you don't want to play your own music.

What I like about the RPi4 running Moode is it's inexpensive and does a fantastic job.
I run Moode with a 256GB SAMSUNG MUF-256AB/AM FIT. It holds a ton of music.

Love the RPi4 8GB - $82 or 4GB for $65

Samsung Fit - $23

Amor case $14

WD Purple MicroSD 64GB $14

Power Supply $10

$143 gets you a fantastic streamer that can be setup to automatically start playing your music once it boots or use the IP address on a computer/tablet/phone to control playback. If you want to use a streaming service then use your favorite player software with UPnP capability. There's nothing as flexible as the RPi4 running Moode and it does it while only using 6W even with the Samsung Fit drive attached. I plug the RPi4 USB port into the RME ADI-2 USB input and it's a wonderful match.

Whether I want to play music from the USB drive or stream from Audirvana using Qobuz via UPnP it does it all. What's cool is when RPi4 is connected directly to ADI-2 DAC FS and playing music from the Samsung Fit it supports playback up to 352.8kHz in my tests. You won't find that resolution available with other streamers. The max is usually 192kHz.

There's no need to pay more than $150 for a quality streamer.
You can customize your case, storage size, SD Card, power supply and the services supported. Turn on what you want and leave the rest off. It's a sweet package that lets you customize it to fit your every need.

Wow. This is a pro set up. For NAS and lots of music storage. You have excellent set up.
I primarily listen to Apple Music and CD. No other music apps.

Excellent combo. Well presented. And I could see your expertise. In the software selection and display.

I replaced my RPI/Roopie with the WiiM Pro and never looked back. No more having to install updates.
I use it to listen to Spotify, Qobuz, and Roon.
The WiiM Pro comes with parametric equalizer to better mate your speakers to your room. Highly recommended.

WiiM Pro works great for me. For local music (which I very rarely need anymore), LMS is great, as the WiiM Pro has a squeezelite endpoint.

Good photograph. Well displayed. What’s the one display on top of the RME. ?

I run a shanling et3 cd player into mine. It has AirPlay and LDAC bluetooth so that covers my streaming and CD needs in one go.

Pointlessly expensive but it’s nice build quality

Probably because it could never be as good as the RPi4/Moode combination for less than $140. And because RME ADI-2 DAC FS users already have solutions? That's my guess

AirPlay2 built in would be a great addition to the next gen RME prosumer product though. The issue with WiiM (which I use with mine) is that you need to use RME volume control to enjoy the loudness comp. If AirPlay2 were built in you could use the volume buttons on your phone when playing music to control RME volume. In my house, that limits RME to desktop use.

I will try this method. There are now so many volume buttons. One on RME. Two wiim. Three preamp. Not including phone. Will try to see which combo gets the punch.

While on the subject of RME and wiim proplus. I also request suggestions on a good quality stable cd player or transport that can be used thru RME. Though I have a Blu-ray pioneer. I feel an exclusive cd or transport will further enhance music flow. I m not sure it’s right or wrong. Pl let me know friends. Your views. Suggestions welcome. Thx.

unnecessary. use the BluRay Player. and run from its digital output into the corresponding digital input on the RME

RME fed by WiiM mini here. If you only need a streamer that is bit perfect this is an excellent choice.

My personal bias is to rip CDs to FLAC format (and verify you have an exact bit-perfect copy). I use dBpoweramp (Reference + PerfectTUNES bundle) for ripping, verifying, and managing the meta tag data. And then use Lyrion Music Server (LMS) as your local streamer.

When evaluating a CD player or transport, you will presumably connect it via digital output to the RME. Which means the quality of the on-bard DAC is irrelevant. Any modern transport should be more than solid for the S/PDIF digital stream (Coax or Optical), and jitter will be well managed from both the transport output as well as by the RME device. In which case (IMHO), the real issue is how well the transport handles error correction as it reads the data from the CD (e.g., scratches, blemishes)... which is why my focus is on ripping all of my CDs for bit-perfect streaming (or to at least know where I have a track with even the slightest potential error).

[Edit] the above paragraph uses more words to say what @IngMishael commented regarding which transport to use: just use your Blu-ray player for any CDs that you haven't ripped, and use LMS (or other playback tool) for those that you have.

Thx. So much. Will try this suggestion.

I would recommend two steps to your process:

1) Decide where you will most naturally want to control volume. For me, it is the volume knob on my RME at my desk since that is where I am seated when listening to the speakers.

2) Read up on gain staging for general guidance on how to dial in optimal signal levels for noise reduction; and then optimize it based on allowing you to have the fullest range of volume control from your preferred listening position.
