RME ADI-2 FS Version 2 DAC and Headphone Amp Review

Does anybody know why the DAC would change the volume on its own while listening via headphones?
I'm not quite sure I understand you. That said, my ADI-2 PRO keeps different volume settings for speakers and headphones. If you plug in the headphone it changes the volume level, and vice versa when you unplug it.

I have the DAC connected to my PC via USB. While playing a game after a while the DAC lowers the volume on its own.

Might be something similar to this Communications setting.

Thanks, but I can see on the display of the DAC that it briefly changes to "Volume Phones" like when you turn the volume knob or use the remote. Would the unit reduce the volume if it detects any clipping? Not that I can see any in voicemeeter, it barely gets to the green indicator.

It might be that the knob/encoder sensitivity is too high (meaning low in terms of how it’s presented in settings). Go to your settings on the device (has to device, cannot be changed via app) and in general settings raise the encoder sensitivity (make it less sensitive to eliminate ghost inputs).

If you’re absolutely certain it does this systematically and only while playing a game then it’s probably something else but worth a try regardless.

Thanks, now that seems the most likely explanation. I decreased the sensitivity from 1 tom 3 for now. Its gonna take a while to know for sure, the issue only came up once or twice per week.

Yeah if it was random like that my bet is on the encoder. Fingers crossed!

I was going to clean my ADI-2 PRO FS R today, so I unscrewed the knob, and a tiny part popped out and fell off. Does anyone know what this is or where it was originally supposed to be?

There will be probably no problem selling it even after the new version comes out, thanks to the rather unique feature set.
Good things come to those who can wait.
I just received an email from RME this morning announcing the new model:

Interested to see the new specifications. Curious about the headphone output power.

Sometimes the thin CR 2025 lithium cell makes suboptimal contact - inofficially the thicker CR 2032 fits (and lasts longer).
P.S. The newer model of the remote (aluminum top) comes "officially" with the CR 2032.

Hmm. Nothing that makes me want to replace my current one, so that’s good for me at least.

The trigger out is nice if you’re using USB, but if you’re lazy like me and AirPlay into yours with a WiiM Pro because you can’t be bothered to connect a USB cable then it’s redundant.
