RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE

Because i only have one and need 3 more for the studios!

Yes ,its not very cheap though, these were a limited run ,none left in stores.
I spoke with the RME manager sometime in February ,they were supposed to release the whole new line in the end of March.Untill then i use the other RME interfaces i have.

What would be the reason to await a new one?
Perhaps because the old 2/4 is no longer available for sale, and they want features that are not available on the EX (which is a newer version of the Pro FS R)?

On the RME forum, there was mention that it is expected RME will release the new models incrementally for the discontinued ADI-2 lineup (Pro, Pro 2/4, DAC).

Only ADI-2fs and ADI-Pro EX on RME product pages. Waiting for EX product page to be complete to read full spec and manual. I think(hope) there is an upgrade to the balanced output ala 2/4.

Yes thats what i was told when i contacted RME ,since i also wanted several units for an installation at TV brodcaster studios, besides my own ones.
I never learned why the stopped the series though ,specially the 2/4 was out for a very short production life.

No. It is replacement for the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition. So the update doesn't really belong in this thread... but it may provide decent hints about potential successor to the Pro 2/4 SE.
Good point - my apologies. Will be interesting to see what will the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE successor (eventually) look like.

@mags65 shared this link that includes information about the RME ADI-2/4 Pro EX (as well as the ADI-2 Pro EX and ADI-2 DAC EX) on a different thread:

Key Features of the EX Series
RME has significantly enhanced its core technology in key areas to take reliability and performance to a new level of quality.
  • SteadyClock EX: Each unit is factory-calibrated for extreme sample rate accuracy of ±1 ppm. The highlight: The internal clock can be fine-tuned in small steps (0.1 ppm) by ±50 ppm using the menu. This feature allows for perfect synchronization with other devices, even without external synchronization ("Sync without Sync").
  • New ESS converter chips: The use of state-of-the-art ESS chips (including the ESS9039Q2M for D/A conversion) has noticeably improved the SNR, THD, and THD+N.
  • Robust Connectors & Protection Circuits: Both models now feature a modern, lockable USB-C port with a 1.8-meter cable. Additionally, an active fuse-less power supply protection circuit provides absolute protection against overvoltage and reverse polarity. The headphone outputs also have a channel-independent hardware protection circuit against direct current (DC).

RME ADI-2/4 Pro EX – The Flagship Mastering Interface
The Pro version is the undisputed benchmark for studio and high-end setups and offers additional hardware enhancements.
  • The new ESS9823Pro A/D converter guarantees completely transparent analog-to-digital conversion with optimized noise and distortion levels.
  • Vinyl and microphone upgrades: RIAA equalization is now available in line mode (0 dB gain), which allows for the use of external preamps and simplifies the use of MC systems. A separate ground screw provides a ground connection for turntables. Additionally, extended reference levels up to -35 dBu allow for direct connection of dynamic microphones.
  • Flexible Source Selection: ADAT channels 3 and 4 can now be selected directly as the headphone output source.
  • Available starting in late Q3 2026; pricing to be announced.

The prices on these new units could keep resale values on the previous RME ADI-2 DAC FS units elevated.
Why do you say that? From one source, the list price was €1,850 for the ADI-2 Pro EX. While the list price of the ADI-2 Pro FS R was €1,999.

Of course, the resale value of high quality gear such as RME remains high overall. But unless I am missing something, it doesn't seem the list pricing is adding any uplift to the resale. Of course, for USA buyers, the impact of tariff pricing and unfavorable exchange rate may affect the cost of new units... I'm not sure what the pricing from USA vendors will be.

Mostly, as you can't get anywhere near that 1000 price tag for the quality and features offered in the previous ADI-2 DAC FS. Now, the 2000 price range is the playground for that same quality Loudness feature with the new ADI-2 Pro EX gear. Sure, the new gear offers cool features but the LD and ADI2 remote software is enough for me. The previous AKM DAC "B" doesn't hurt either.

I appreciate the new ESS chip in the ADI 2/4 Pro EX, as ESS is my preference. I would have thought at least one version of the new ADI models would have an AK chip option for improved DSD playback.

I was hoping for a 48V mic input, a 10 band parametric EQ, and total mix integration to upgrade my existing Pro SE.

I do think RME should include an auto eq option at these prices. They also need to hire a software team to improve the menu structures to change/input the various settings. Without the RME Remote App you have to think like a programmer to use the device.

I also hope they fix the buzzing power brick or place the power supply inside the chasis.

Wow, what a huge disappointment!
  • Larger chassis with ventilation: Refined design and improved cooling efficiency, matching the ADI-2/4 Pro look.
  • Upgraded with chrome feet from the ADI-2 DAC FS, adding a refined touch to the desktop setup.
  • Lockable USB-C connection: Modern and robust (USB 2.0, no bus power), 1.8 m cable included.
  • And other cosmetics…
The biggest differentiators of the ADI-2 Pro EX compared to the ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition are the two letters „EX“ and the higher price.
Is there any innovation in the new ADI-2 line-up that I missed?

Well, it looks like we have written it off without even having access to a published spec sheet or an actual review.

More output power is nice, if its just beefier or redesigned output stage. New DC and power protection is also a goodie. I would wait for the PDF to read before I put the hammer down. One could always ask for more functions, but these are already avaliable if you have a complementary interface like UCXII/UFX.. ADI series strongest card has always been the price range IMHO. High end sound and functionality with a low end price tag. Power to the people! Heftier FPGA(s) and other stuff will surely shift that balance.

Having a high-voltage power supply in an already hot chassis is never a good idea. In addition, reliability problems (as PS is the most common point of failure). I bought LNI-2 and couldn't be happier.

That's what I'm thinking! These days, the power of the FPGA's and DSP's dictates market success. Some companies already use up to five of the most powerful FPGA chips per device. Not the DAC chip, which is the last part of the chain and largely fixed in terms of specifications.
