The most fascinating thing here was that up firing "Torus" sub. The driver is made out of stiff fiber carbon. The magnet is created electrically (i.e. field coil). They had it set to very low output level. The amount of bass it was adding was very subtle. I think they did that to get acceptance from typical 2-channel buyers It is powered by the box on the floor to its back left.
I spent quite a bit of time with Luke Milnes who did a number of AB tests for me with the sub and explained the background of the company, the product, etc. And immediately followed up with a detailed email of what was what:
"The loudspeakers were the A.C.T. One Evolution floor standers. They were finished in one of our new, exclusive P1 Collection coloured carbon fibre finishes, ‘Ettore’ Blue.
The other product was the Torus Infrasonic Generator and its dedicated amplifier. A passive subwoofer design, that we prefer to refer to as an Infrasonic Generator, owing to the fact it is not based upon the conventional subwoofer design. The 18g Torus carbon fibre cone is completely controlled electromagnetically, in a push - pull motor design using two magnets and two coils around a central steel core.
Our new website shows an interactive exploded view of the Torus Infrasonic Generator: http://www.wilson-benesch.com/torus-infrasonic-generator.html
In addition the A.C.T. One Evolution webpage explores some of the technologies in the loudspeaker: http://www.wilson-benesch.com/act-one-evolution-floor-standing-loudspeaker.html"
