Finally got around to getting setup with REW and a UMIK in anticipation of a 2nd subwoofer and Minidsp arriving. I plan on diving into MSO once they do. My current setup is 3.1 channels. I'm also running Audyssey One Evo through my Denon x3500h AVR. Given that a second sub is coming I thought I should finally take a look at positioning within my awkward room and see if there are any easy gains to be had.

First up are the REW measurements, all shown with 1/6 smoothing.

LCR - center channel in pink, LR in purple/teal.

And finally LFE

And here are a couple of pics of the room. Pardon the pull out sofa bed, but grandma needs a place to sleep while visiting. Very large open room with a sloped ceiling.

Seems my most immediate concern would be that null at 55hz? Anything to correct that? Any obvious room treatments to consider or speaker placements to adjust?

I would worry about the missing grandma before the null!

Second on my list would be the 20-50hz - I realize you maybe a bass-head, but one bass-head to another, try lowering those frequencies a smidgen and you will hear overall clarity improve.

As to the null, sometimes your sub interacts with the mains so reduce bass. But before worrying about that, I would wait for the second sub. Why fix something that will fix itself shortly!

Now that I'm thinking about it I probably should have turned off Audyssey for these measurements since that low bass range may be boosted from Audyssey one Evo.

Just a thought - would it make sense to hold off the measurements until the fold-out is tucked away? Seems like it could potentially interfere with the left channel vs. the others.

Yes. The bed will make quite a difference IME. I had sizable differences in room mode peak magnitude just replacing a chair with a loveseat. Frankly the loveseat had a more significant positive impact than other wall hanging room treatments, go figure. I barely need any bass eq now.

Measure both ways and post up the results.

When looking at the “Combined L+R” measurement, I would think the frequency area 150Hz-200Hz to be the most immediate concern. With a loss of energy in that range, instruments often sound a bit on the thin side.

Oh probably, but I had some free time with the house empty and wanted to get everything setup to do measurements before the second sub arrived and I started messing with MSO

Any tips on how to correct that?

You can try different speaker and listening positions, or maybe let the subwoofers crossover at a higher frequency.

It's a common problem. I solved it by letting my subwoofers crossover point to overlap the main speakers a bit more.
