Review request: JCally x Crinacle AP6

a request for the review of not just yet another portable dac/amp, but this one is special because it outputs much power at 16ohms and it has a unique circuitry make-up that allows it output such current heavy loads at low impedences. i seek them for driving planar magnetics at 110db with 6db bass boosts.

just for headroom, i won't be listening that loud ever. its just for the dynamic peaks. the transients and all.

unless you're listening at 95db average to songs that have 15 db dynamic range swings, i dont really see the point of targeting 110 db.
 
you could probably just trust it since it's from jcally and crinacle, it wouldve looked bad if they never performed like the specs.
that or top up for an e1da 9039s or even louder a topping nx7. i think the nx7/g5 are the loudest as far as portables can go. only thing it couldnt power is probably the susvara.

i didnt write it on the post, but my use case is NOT casual listening, but mixing and producing music. mordern genres with bass. hence the higher requirements.

again, unless you're mixing in movie soundtracks at 90 db average and 110 db peaks, i still dont get why you're looking for all that. It's nice to have peaks but you seem to not know what you're doing. Additionally, loudness does not matter as much as a good FR with distortion performance, the latter isnt too much of an issue but make sure you get the FR right. You're barking up the wrong tree.

oh and my bad about the golden sound thing, i mixed up the protocol max review with this one.

Single number SPLs are without value. Our hearing sensitivity massively changes with frequency. What could be deafening at higher frequencies, could be just OK level in bass.

It only has that as an average over the entire track. Plain drums playing will have far higher dynamics than that.

Ah. That makes sense. Working with audio sometimes means soloing a quiet channel for checking something on it. That means you crank up the amp volume for that purpose, which takes half a second, instead of messing with the volume slider in your DAW, potentially destroying some carefully created volume automation envelope, or simply forgetting where the slider was, and wondering how many CTRL-Z's is needed to go back, then reaching for the bottle of Xanax because pro tools crashed because you touched an unstable plugin by accident.

The only meaningful benefit of huge headroom. And it's a pretty damn hugely meaninful benefit for a working man.
