It’s important to distinguish between subjectivity and lack of basic controls. I use my subjective judgement to tell if A and B sound different, and if they do, which I prefer. Controls are needed so that I know the difference is actually a sonic one, rather than something that’s happening in my wetware.

I read descriptions of timing differences in audio reviews all the time. I wonder what they are really hearing. A DAC, preamp, or amplifier that is even modestly competent in it's design can't effect the relative timing of instruments in the mix in any way at all.

Usually, they are hearing what the price tag tells them they should hear...

One other thing- it’s important to distinguish “timing” in the context of music (scale of dozens of milliseconds) from “timing” in the context of digital clocks (scale of picoseconds, with audibility starting in nanoseconds). Marketeers like to conflate these.
100% agree

I'm afraid it's still basically the same :/

best advice is to get modi3/magni3(heresy). modi multibit should sell rather easily on second hand market.

that's probably what I'm going to do. Too bad to have spent hundred dollars on what? definitely a bad start

There are hundreds of people loving this device to death and claiming it sounds much better than anything else.
The same goes for the Eitr so chances are it may sound good enough to you too.
It's probably those testimonials that made you buy it in the first place.
Just listen to it and then make up your mind.
Knowing about its actual performance now will make that more difficult now though.
Just enjoy the Schiit is my advice.

Good morning, and I apologize to everyone for not introducing myself properly.
I am the proud owner (since 1977) of a maniacally maintained Beveridge 2sw system (the mylar inside the panels was replaced about 4 years ago by a German specialist). The sponge in front of the acoustic lenses was supplied to me directly by Rick Beveridge. My Bev system seems like new :)
As preamplifier I can choose between a Beveridge RM1/2 (of course more correct from a historical and synergical point of view) and an Accuphase C260. TT is a JVC QL-7 with bespoke plynth.

I've got a Cocktail Audio X45 too. Not very happy.

Oh, I forgot the most important thing. Also a mac mini (2012) with iTunes and a huge collection of music attached (external hdd in a JBOD case). When I say huge, I say really huge (more than 5 Tera). For now I use the headphone / mini toslink output from the mac and I use an old cd player with toslink input. But I know it's certainly not the best.

Not only liquid music of course ...

considering the import costs (almost $ 100) I'm going to pay tomorrow (just received a fax from FedEx), that's the only thing left to do ....

sometimes people do things quickly and stupidly, I think this is one of them

Does it matter if it sounds good to you and obviously did not mind forking out the money (realizing there would be import taxes) ?

And yes, sometimes people do things quickly and stupidly.
Punishment is bound to follow quickly. That doesn't have to hurt necessarily.

I understand this approach and Amir and all the guys here are doing a great job looking at hifi from the scientific point of view. For me I'm hearing certain things and I'm trying to see the data that could explain that occurrence.
The most important thing to do before looking for an explanation for what you hear, is to start by proving you do indeed hear it when listening ears only. If you do the test, regardless of outcome, you will learn a lot.
