Have you tries anything else that works with PI2AES or anything else that works with AES on D90?PI2AES the AES outputs on the D90. Noise is heard and the D90 indicator shows 176khz.

Unfortunately, there is no other DAC available to check. If you can check it yourself.Have you tries anything else that works with PI2AES or anything else that works with AES on D90?

Hmm. Just checked, D90 only supports DSD on USB. Where did you see that D90 supports it on other inputs? It was too late at night. It's that AK4499 doesn't support it.Unfortunately, there is no other DAC available to check. If you can check it yourself.

Why do you need the PI2AES to feed the D90?

No AKM based dac has that as far as I know.Yes you are right it turns out D90 no Dop support via Aes inputs, optics, coaxial. This is very very strange and unusual for a modern DAC. Now Dop support is the modern standard of all modern Dac. Topping can add DoP support in the firmware?
For example Teac nt505 on ak 4497 like other dacs perfectly plays dsd through dop. Photo from the instruction 505. Why Topping lags behind in this matter is not clear. No AKM based dac has that as far as I know.
Pi2AES can be used as an RPi streaming box, which can be convenient at home. Not everyone listens straight from PC.
Now that seems an interesting option for me.Pi2AES can be used as an RPi streaming box, which can be convenient at home. Not everyone listens straight from PC.
No. Any claim otherwise is really just fantasy.Would the AES has any advantage over a regular other digital output to feed the D90 ?
