I used to do that. Unfortunately the snipping tool captures the entire app or I have to manually select that Window by dragging a rectangle which is a pain. It can't just capture that one window.

Seems to do it here :)

It has 50mV ripple, quite high to be used with a DAC.
That is max at rated current. Would probably be much less at the load required. Should still be better than a line pouluting switcher. The other possibilites is building something or getting one of the regulated supplies on Ebay.

Lots of great solutions offered, thanks everyone. Unfortunately, with graduate school and work, I don't have the time for a DIY project at the moment, as much as I would love to build my own solution. I'll think it over, see if I can't find something that is more plug-n-play.

Oh, adding on, it is not that USB power is clean. It is that good DACs are able to filter what is wrong with it.

I was looking at this 'AudioQuest - Jitterbug USB Filter' do you think it would help?

Also its out £185 in the uk

Technobrakes, just borrow a scope and measure your USB +5V for all ports on your desktop/laptop. If you can find a port having less or at most 1 mV RMS of ripple & noise then stick your DAC into that USB port and no need for any additional USB filtering, unless you really want that. Usually desktop front ports are a bit more noisy than the ones from the back. If your computer is delivering 10 mV of ripple & noise, then you might need a USB filter indeed...hope this help.

Example:

Very noisy USB port on Lenovo T430 vs. X201 (USB located on the left side)

Note some 'scopes will not accurately measure 1 mV of noise...

Don't many DACs include internal VRM's (voltage regulator modules) to regulate the USB voltage? So it is more of a noise coupling problem? Not that having a clean USB source won't help, just curious the problem being solved...

They do so the only way to know if additional filtering is helpful is measure the output of the DAC.

I have an old Schiit Wyrd that I got used a few years back to fix my noisy USB issue on an older desktop. I could break that out again, but is the 500mA enough to power the D50? I would just use it to power the D50, no USB input to the Wyrd.

Hi,
Is this DAC already available in Europe?
I searched for it right now and I just found overseas shops which sell them.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Welcome to the forum Mike. The DAC was just released a few days ago. Best to contact the company and see what they say about availability: http://en.tpdz.net/products_detail/productId=37.html

The above link by the way has lots of nice pictures and much more detail about its operation.

Hi,

Thanks for the info but with them you have to go through customs. Given my past experience with audio equipment and customs here I really do not want to go through that again.
Well I have time and can wait until a local shop (Europe) will have it in their inventory.
