I agree with @Krunok. Firstly, we can't be sure that your Xtrem Pro is exactly the same device as the Speaka USB that Amir measured.
I am confident they are clones of each other. I made a few measurements and they were identical.

but it would be interesting if @amirm also tests the efficiency of digital volume control in foobar, XMOS and few most popular DAC chips.
This is something I like to do. But what is the specific protocol and scenario for test?

M8, I bought an apartment on ground floor 8 years ago. It's close to best hospitals in town and less than half a mile from the cemetery. :D
If it’s far away from the police station that’s a home run right there..

Luckily it is. I also have a 400+ HP car so I'm good. But I was told by my older friends that the real trouble starts when Viagra no longer helps.

Based partly on this review, I went and bought this lovely piece of dac. I installed the drivers from the website as instructed and it plays just like it should. I play my music files using Squeezeplay on a NUC with Win 10.

The only thing is, that this system apparently upscales my music files to 32 bit / 96 kHz as shown in the display. I wonder whether it is a thing Windows or Squeezeplay does. I would like the files to be sent i their original format to the dac so it can work its magic. Any ideas where to look for a solution will be appreciated.

By default windows samples everything to one frequency. You need to switch the interface to Wasapi which I believe Squeezeplay supports from my quick search.

Thanks for your time and effort. Swapping from Squeezeplay to Squeezelite-X made the audio settings easier, so I tried Wasapi, Asio and Direct sound with the same result. Then I looked in to the Topping driver sound setting, which apparently only has these two settings for bit depth.

I cannot tell from this if it relates to the output from the player or it just is a matter of the D50's internal signal processing.

Well, I'm 54 and here's my gramophone. And I challenge you to tell how its volume control works. :D

For those of you who wonder how volume control works on this gramophone - well, quite simple: it has loud needle and quiter needle so you have to put the right one before you listen to the record. :)

Btw, this gramophone is from the first decade of 20th century (year 190X). It is fully functional, worth app 200EUR and it has really fascinating sound. :)

For Wasapi, that control panel setting makes no difference.

So confirming, even when using WASAPI you always see 96 kHz sampling on the display of D50?

Oh my, my daddy is bigger than your daddy, LOL. No Victrola, so close to 70 it hurts, and my car has 455 hp according to the manufacturer, but other examples typically dyno to 415 net of driveline losses, so the real number is over 480 at the crank. My house has an elevator, LOL.

I felt a lot better when I was 54.
