Review and Measurements of Topping D10 DAC

Thanks! Could you also suggest me a cheap BNC cable that works well? In the past, I remember having read that not all BNC cables, when measured, were "true" 75 Ohm.

There are 50Ω and 75Ω impedances for common coaxial cables, but both can be used for S / PDIF audio applications. Don't worry too much.
Some coaxial cables are used for high frequency equipment, but I use cheaper ones for Amazon Choice audio.

Hi! First of all, thanks for the great review. I have a question: I have a DAC with BNC input and I am considering the Topping as USB-SPDIF converter. Can I replace (with some diy skills) the Coax connector with a BNC one, without any problems? Or would there any impedance matching be involved in this process?
Thanks!
Just use an rca to bnc lead, if you think about bnc to bnc and if it will make any difference considering the mods inside the casing with jumper cables etc I think that’s the best way to go

I guess this one could be okay:
The canare is a crimp rca plug if it’s the one I’m thinking of and the centre conductor is crimped and inserted far into the plug centre pin making it the nearest to a true 75ohm coax plug that I know of

I bought a secondhand D10 to use as USB-SPDIF converter. It works well (as Amir's tests suggested it would) but I've run into the issue documented many times in this thread -- when my PC (running Windows 11) wakes from Sleep mode, the D10 will not wake with the PC, and the only way to wake up the DAC is to unplug the USB cable and then plug it back in. Topping no longer offers firmware updates for the original D10. Question: Does anyone know if wake-from-sleep problem has been resolved in the current model D10S? Thanks for your help.

Hi, i have both D10 (Balanced and unbalanced) ,i don't have such an issue ,in fact i have the opposite.it stays on all the time so i pull the usb cable to tun it off.
make sure you have the USB ports powered on in your PC\laptop.Its a setting in windows power option in control panel to always on.

Click the "Start" button (or "Windows" logo ), then access the "Control Panel."

Click on "Classic View" if not already selected, then double-click "Power Options."

Click "Power Manager" o then click on the "Global Power Settings" tab.

Click the box next to "Enable Always On USB," then hit "OK." You will now have USB port on always."

If you want to do it only for specifics USb ports then do it through device manager see tips here :

Thanks very much for the detailed reply, and sorry to report that the proposed fix doesn't work. Many posts in this thread (and on other forums) have suggested changing the USB power settings, and many users (myself included) have reported that for the OG D10, that doesn't work -- even with "Always On USB," when the PC wakes from Sleep mode, the D10 won't wake with the PC. Apparently Topping fixed this problem with a firmware update that applied only to D10 DACs within a limited range of serial numbers, but the firmware update is no longer available. I'm pretty sure that for my OG D10, the only solution to the "wake-from-sleep" issue is to adjust the PC's power settings so that it never enters Sleep mode. Topping replaced the D10 (which I own) with the newer (and still current) D10S. So, to repeat my original question: Does anyone know if wake-from-sleep problem has been resolved in the current model D10S? Thanks again.

Thanks! I have a D10 for that same reason, connected to an HP Mini with a 4th gen i3 running Win10 running as nothing more than a music server with Foobar2000, fully disconnected from my home network so I am not bothered with untimely updates, using only 7% of CPU when running a full stack of DSP including Convolver for room correction. I upgraded an HP notebook with a 4th gen i5 to Win11 and it works perfectly, but itounds like I should just leave the mini on Win10 because it works without issues just as it sits. Of course, I must update my music library manually, but that's not really a big deal because I back it up regularly from my main PC to an external SSD.

Thanks, it's worth an ask, I'll try.
I'd also double and triple check your host pc USB port is indeed staying on. I've seen cases of it NOT staying on in any S state, even when set to do so.

To answer my own question: The current-production D10S has solved the wake-from-sleep problem, i.e., when my PC wakes from sleep, so does the D10S, promptly locking back onto the signal and displaying the sample rate.
