I recently had an in-depth discussion with a colleague about hi-fi systems. As a result he's now looking to invest in a new pair of speakers and an amplifier for his living room stereo. Since I love the Neumann KH150s in my own setup, I suggested he consider them as an option. We also explored the possibility of passive speakers, and a well-reviewed here Revel M16 came up as a more affordable alternative to the Neumanns.

He could pair new Revels with a s/h integrated priced around £500, which has the following specs:
- Maximum Power Output (Both channels driven):
- 175W at 8 Ohms, 1kHz, 1% distortion
- 300W at 4 Ohms, 1kHz, 1% distortion
- 420W at 2 Ohms, 1kHz, 1% distortion.

The total cost for the Revels, an amplifier, and a streamer would be around £1,200, while the Neumanns with a preamp and streamer would be about £3,300.

Would the Neumanns offer a significant improvement over the Revels?

The KH150 has more extended frequency response on both ends and is flatter to boot:

On the flip side, the M16 will have a wider sweet spot:

More importantly though, the KH150 has built-in room correction.

Also, thanks to the Neumann's digital SPDIF input (which would actually be preferred over analog), your friend wouldn't have to spend nearly as much on a streamer.

£2,400 for two KH150s and £150 for a WiiM Pro would be all that's required for a bit-exact streaming setup.
Volume can be controlled using the WiiM's remote control, or via the App.

If he wants to make use of the MA 1 room correction, bax-shop has a set with 2x KH150 and the mic for £2,500.
Add to that a £120 Komplete Audio 6 MK2 interface and a basic £15 Ethernet switch and he'd be good to go.

Alternatively, he could pocket the extra £250 and use the WiiM's built-in room correction capabilities instead.
A little more basic, but still vastly better than no correction at all.

Yeah, KH150 is a better speaker and M16 is a better price. Really hard to compare such disparate speakers.

If KH 150 is being considered for actives then you would really compare them to M126Be or Kef R3 Meta.

If M16 are being compared for actives then they should be compared to KH80 or Kali IN-5.

We were actually considering the Wiim Pro Plus. Can it be connected to the TV without any latency issues?

The Pro Plus' only advantages over the cheaper Pro are an improved DAC and ADC.

If you're not planning on using Analog in/out, then that would be money wasted.

I don't own a WiiM Pro, so cannot confirm.

Best to check https://forum.wiimhome.com/ for actual user reports.
