Revel C208 Review (Center Speaker)

So I am curious...why is the Horizontal dispersion considered 80% even though areas around the middle and on the right side of the graph are clearly less?
Thanks!

Could a centre channel like this be converted into a "soundbar" I wonder without needing a big amp/receiver

No. This is a center channel speaker that requires an amp;receiver and is designed to play just one channel.

This one is passive

Get a cheap receiver from Goodwill or somewhere.

How is it at disappearing? By that I mean, I hate center speakers that call attention to the enclosure instead of projecting the sound so my brain can anchor it to the screen better. The 365c is good at it. Others like the C2+ was terrible at it. Others were in the middle like the SVS Ultra and 600c

I just purchased the last C208 from Crutchfield to replace the C30 in a system with 4 M20s (maple finish).
The M20s do the job very well and all are mounted with OnmiMounts at 8 feet in an A-Frame house.
The result is very cinematic.

Unfortunately, the C30 is dying it is muddled with no sibilants. I don't know if it is a tweeter or crossover.
I bought a used spare C30 and tried this at home, it is a disaster, distortion and again no high frequencies.
I suppose I could have repaired it but we rent out this summer home and the system must work reliably.

Unfortunately, the C208 is gloss black so that will not pair well but should look OK about the black OLED display.

The tricky part is mounting it using the OmniMount, made more difficult by a curved speaker.
For the Voice2, I have drilled holes in the included cradle to fasten it to the OmniMount.
I am hoping that I can do something similar with the C208.

What is included with the C208, is there a cradle that I can hack?

Thanks,

Rich

There is no cradle but there are 4 screw holes on the bottom that you can use to mount a cradle or some sort of base to do what you did with the voice2.

The C208 arrived. The curve is smaller than I thought. I will make and adapter board for the C208 to OmniMount.

If you don’t mind sharing what you come up with I’d appreciate it.

I have about 15” from the top the TV to the bottom of the wooden beam. I’ve been using a Elac Uni-Fi 2.0 UC52 in the console stand that has served me well but the Revel C208 is just sitting in the box.

I though about mounting the TV but it would be close to the top to make room for the C208 but wondering if it would be too high?

Make a shelf instead

My brother and I built an adapter board to mount the C206 on the existing OmniMount.
M8 inserts were used to connect the OmniMount to the underside of the board and the existing mount points M8s connected the board to C208.

The sound is transformed, dialog is clear, the sibilants are present.
The importance of a good center channel cannot be overstated.

Mounting tv above fireplace is not good idea. I understand why it is done due to room. TV should be at eye level unless in bedroom watching lying down.

If you're going to mount above the fireplace, you should at least use something like this pull down TV mount so that you can get the TV a bit lower when in use. I can't understand people craning their neck up to look at a TV that's basically touching the ceiling. Makes my neck hurt just thinking about it. I mean I guess if you have recliners and really recline while watching maybe?

r/centertoohigh eh? Why is it at the ceiling?
All speakers are at 8 ft in an A-frame.
It sounds great for HT.

Next time your in a cinema measure the speaker height. ;)

I haven’t been to a cinema/movie theater in about 10 years. And my C208 is on Revel’s own stand for it — i,e. 30cm from the floor.

All sound in a cinema is from above.
Place your speakers where you like, but in a family vacation home, everyone loves it and the sound is enveloping.

The C208 cabinet is curved and though placed a little closer to the wall and sloping ceiling, the chestiness of the C30 is not present.
It sounds great.

We have two lie down couches and it is not a big deal to look up a bit.
I prefer the TV at home, which is 30 inches off the ground.

There is a lot of advice on placement, I am not sure why people are emphatic.
This is a family vacation home that we also rent to pay the bills.
Not only does the placement look and sound great, but it is loved my family members and renters alike.

I suspect this is the view of consequence ;)
