Revel B112V2 Subwoofer

A dealer is offering me a Revel B112V2 subwoofer for an very attractive price. I will audition it. But I would like to know if there are any measurements of the sub. And for anyone who owns one, how does it compare to others, such as the SVS SB2000 Pro and SVS PB1000 Pro (which I have both)? Anything particular about the Revel sub that I should be aware of?

Just looking at the specs you'll get better bass extension from the SVS SB2000 Pro you already have.

I own the Revel B10, and I can tell you it punches way above its weight. I also got it at an extremely attractive price; I wouldn't suggest anyone pay MSRP for Revel's subs.

Despite the on-paper bass extension being less than the SVS, my guess based on my experience with my lesser Revel sub is that it will still be an upgrade. Will the dealer allow you to audition it for some time period?

I assume you looked at its RMS specs. It's true that the B112V2's RMS of 1000W far surpasses the ~400W of the SVS. However, the specs also indicate that the SVS extends down to around 20Hz, while the Revel only reaches 29Hz. So that's what confuses me. I can't tell whether the Revel is the better choice or the SVS is.

Thanks for your info. The Revel is a lot more expensive, but I can't find any measurement for it. No, it is a close-out sale.

Edit: The dealer was kind enough to offer me a 7-day return window at a very attractive price. So I will let you know of my impressions, but if any of you have any inputs, kindly share.

I have that SVS sub and in my room is starts to roll off at 22-23hz. I would stay with the SvS. I feel our OP is just looking to buy something new. We have all been there.
I am going through that thought process for my Road bike, which is fabulous, but I just want something.

Subwoofer specs are still the wild west with no standards and a lot of hype on "how low can it go" put out by manufactures. What is always not mentioned is distortion. Even CEA-2010 standard allows ~15% distortion @ 20Hz which is way too high IMO but at least it is a consistent way to compare. Unless both are measured the same way you can not compare published specs in any meaningful way.

Everybody know that Revel makes high quality subwoofers, that's not the debate. The issue is, will I hear a noticable difference between Revel and the SVS? On this u must be very cautious and there are many factors in play. How old are you? How well do you hear? What's the size of the room in question? Do u use room correction? My opinion, and this is me, is that Revel is quite overpriced and should be used only in professional applications. There is no GUARANTEE that the Revel will be better, only a HOPE. My advice, stick with the SVS. (and the fact that the dealer is offering them at a sizable discount tells u something about their markup)

I bought the Revel B112V2 (1000W RMS). The Revel controls gain the old-fashioned way, while the SVS has an iPhone app that uses -dB as its metric, so I wasn't sure how to volume-match the two. I set the Revel at 8 o'clock and the SVS PB-1000 Pro (350W RMS) at -10dB, again, I'm not confident this constitutes a proper volume match. At the same volume level on the same amp, the Revel punches noticeably harder. I couldn't tell which one reaches lower though. My ears probably can't distinguish the difference at very low frequencies.

The bass heavy songs I played for testing were: Bjork's Hunter (first song of the album Homogenic), and Earthquake by Jisoo (Kpop).

Anyway, I ended up buying two Revel B112V2s for my home theater, so matching them is straightforward.

That matches my experience with my Revel sub. Despite the on-paper extension not necessarily being impressive, it seems to just have gobs of headroom. It would be interesting to see some actual measurements to corroborate the subjective impression. But in any case, glad you were able to try them out and found them as impressive as I do. Enjoy!

For info. you'd have needed to measure the acoustic output of both at the listening position to level match. Even if both used a dB scale setting both to the same number would not have achieved this.
