Refreshing movies worth watching

Bugonia. Not much I can say other than well worth a watch.

Watched it last night. Very good indeed.

Plex listed it as a "Comedy, Drama".
... Super black comedy.

Hmm.
(Perhaps Plex is a tad psychopathic)

I just saw Showing Up (2023) by director Kelly Reichardt. The director is an art film maker. Usually slow character studies.

The story is about a young artist and the pressures of preparing for a big art show. At every moment you expect her to crack or have I disaster with the art creation pressures, financial pressure, substandard housing, and less than supportive family and friends.

The small director attracted some great acting talent, Michelle Williams and André 3000.

I would not recommend it to most persons. If your kids or grandkids are thinking of going to art school or being a visual artist, this might bring some reality.

There are probably other music profession movies similar like Mozart in the Jungle. Several ASR members have mentioned that series and I recommend it having worked in a music school and dated musicians. Classical music is a tough profession. I'm glad my friends pursued it.

I know quite a few people involved and they shot the art school at an art school that went bankrupt. The neighborhoods are very accurate. I love art and collect it, but is a very tough business economically to be a visual artist.

Hi, if I am permitted to mention a movie best avoided?
Project Hail Mary.
The book is great.
So i thought I would catch the movie. Bad move, if you thought Jar Jar Binks was bad, the alien character gives him a run for his money. Yet in the book he is a serious character on a serious mission.
So I re read the book to flush the bad movie out of my memory.

Yes, I appreciate that and as a keen movie watcher, both in the cinema and at home, hope to contribute in a positive vein.
Just sometimes something comes along that one should warn people about.

Nudo di Donna (1982)

This is an Italian comedy staring and directed by Nino Manfredi.

It tells the story of a middle age couple questioning their relationship. It is a romantic mystery comedy. It is set in Venice during carnival. There are some great scenes set in a decaying palazzo and a scene of a grand ball I believe in the Piazzo San Marco. I would love to go to Venice for Carnival someday.

This version is in Italian, maybe a search will turn up an English version or you can use technical means to translate it.

I'm also a fan of Wim Wenders Until the End of the World (1991)

It is a near future road trip movie starring William Hurt. It was shot over the world with a fantastic soundtrack. Licensing the soundtrack for release across countries was very difficult, so the movie is hard to find. It has a happy ending.

Watched this last night and really enjoyed it, especially the ending: The Great War of Archimedes

Like the trailer, i watched it with subtitles and Japanese language. I hear the dubbed version is awful.

The starting battle scene graphics is one of the best I have seen. I watched in my computer (youtube movies) and still looked great.

Reminds me of "The Shining". Read the book twice then watched the movie. I'm like "really?".

Strawberry Mansion (2021). In the movie, the tax collector of the future visits the decaying mansion estate of an elderly woman to collect taxes on her dreams. Then the younger version of the elderly woman falls in love with the current time tax collector. Many forces work against that.

Sundance selection. Definitely in the good weird genre. Visually rich, low budget.

The trailer will not make sense.
