Refreshing movies worth watching

Watched this wonderful BBC Wales Production today - such an antidote to the current load of AI scripted, shallow, poorly acted, 'American hero saves the world again' toss on Netflix/Amazon

wonderful, wonderful German classic: Knockin'on Heaven's Door

Knockin%E2%80%99_on_Heaven%E2%80%99s_Door_Poster.jpg

Just after Martin and Rudi each learn that they have untreatable diseases with very little time to live, the two meet as patients in a hospital. Starting on a found bottle of tequila, Martin realizes that Rudi has never experienced the ocean.... They steal a baby blue Mercedes....

Cult status in Japan, where a great remastered Bluray was recently released (although not mentioned on IMDB, yes it has English subtitles)

If you don't inderstand German, click through via "Watch on YouTube" (autogenerated subtitles don't display in the embedded ASR video) and turn on subtitles. English autogenerated subtitles at this particular link are good, with an occasional glitch due to slang a/o soundalike words

enjoy

"The singers" is probably the best stuff I have watched for a long time.
About 17 min (short) of good cinema, rare these days:

The Yakuza (1974), directed by Sydney Pollack, written by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and Robert Towne (Chinatown)

I recently watched this film for the first time. For the current Blu-Ray release, a 2k scan of an archival interpositive was performed. The result is gorgeous. From set and costume design to color schemes to interior decoration to camera work to the shots of 70s Tokyo at night, this film ist visually and stylistically stunning. Almost every single shot is immensely aesthetic. Pure 70s cinema bliss. As a bonus, the storytelling and acting are entertaining and thrilling, as well.

A little long but well acted by big named stars and very funny. A nice break from current events except it kind of highlights them with a new type of catastrophe.
