Despite the theme of corruption and politicing in the Vatican around the election of a new Pope, the movie is ultimately uplifting, a triumph of virtue over venality.

Or a repackaging of woke themes into a religious context.

Well yes -- "not that there's anything wrong with that" In fact the DEI aspect isn't apparent 'till the very end of the movie. Prior to that, it mostly good ol' political smears and corruption.
