recycling of old dac.
I have Gustard x20pro. as used with .eversolo dmp6 .in digital transport over coax.
Gustard x20pro, has output stage in class a, with discrete components.
gives super soft sound, it depends how clean the material is, you play.
Gustard x20pro, goes very deep in the bass.
only know dac, that goes just deep in the bass, Gustard x26.
all almost all new dac, use opa 1612 in output stage.
are some of you who have experience with old dac, that sounds good.

I think the question is about the relative merits of an older DAC verses a new replacement one.

Yes, there is a bit of improvement to be had (excuse the pun). Maybe a headphone would be more revealing, most audio sets are too sloppy to reveal much DAC detail. It becomes a matter of "best practice" to use the best DAC that makes sense for your budget and needs. Some DACs have more features like volume and filters.

Although I have a bunch of great DACs, I just bought an SMSL SU-1, which is a plain black box, for $60 on EBay....basically state of the art for peanuts.

You should look up the published specs for your old DAC and go from there. Some DACs barely crack 90db. Some expensive and old DACs are just terrible, but the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Sorry, none of this means anything... DAC's are a solved problem and have been for a long time.

Gustard X20 Pro has a SINAD of 104db and Gustard X26 is 120db... both are transparent DAC's.
