With a custom rom there'll be no access to Google Play Store, therefore no Neutron or USB Audio Player Pro to bypass the upsampling.

I'm using custom rom (Lineageos) with Google services installed. There is no problem with buying/running UAPP. Maybe some banking apps would complain, but Google business works ok.

Good to know! Thought Google services would not work with a custom rom.

According to UAPP all works on headphone output. I haven't tested if it is true. The phone is Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro with Qualcomm chip.

I've gone back and forth about using my old LG V30 for music playback. I'm back in the using it camp for now, both at the gym when I'm not moving around a lot, or at home with slightly harder to drive Sennheiser HD600s. I use local files, Tidal and Wavelet, and it's perfect for my needs. I made a major commitment and upgraded it with a 1.5Tb microsd card, so it's good for a couple more years now. I still have a small Sony DAP for running, and anytime the phone is larger than what I want.
