I can't see a thread for it (apologies if there is one).
What are some your favourite record labels, and why?

Here's (probably) my top three:

Studio One - Anyone into Reggae will know this record label like a best friend that they can always rely upon. Set up by the great Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, quite simply, even to this day, some 71 years after it's founding!, it remains the bible for Reggae 'riddims'. Some of the greatest tunes ever to have come out of Jamaica are on this label, and from a who's who of Reggae's greats.

Recording quality was never the greatest, but Reggae music was created for the dancehallls for the masses to enjoy, not so much for 'audiophiles' to sit down and listen to at home ;)

P.S. Soul Jazz Records compilations are a great way in to discovering Studio One's catalogue.

Real World Records - I'm not really sure who came up with the genre tag 'World Music'. I think possibly Charlie Gillett, from back in his BBC Radio London days?, but I honestly don't know. I'm not even convinced the tag is particularly helpful, but anyhow, here we are.

The label was founded by Peter Gabriel and recording quality, from all the cds I have on this label, is generally superb. The label is also intrinsically linked to the WOMAD festivals, of which I've been lucky to go to a few over the years.

Gondwana Records - Founded by the Jazz trumpeter from Manchester, Matthew Halsall, and his brother Daniel, this label draws huge inspiration from spiritual Jazz, especially Alice Coltrane.

Featuring a diverse range of artists, the label, whilst broadly fitting the Jazz genre, defies categorisation as it leans heavily into electronica and neo classical, too. It's a very exciting label for my tastes. I have a lot of their releases on CD, and I recently went to a Gondwana Records concert in London, with Vega Trails headlining, which is what prompted me to start this thread really.

So, with some honourable mentions for some of the great Jazz labels such as Blue Note, Impulse etc, and also groundbreakers like ECM and Ninja Tune, its over to you to describe in your own words some of the record labels, from the thousands out there, that you've grown to love over the years or have even just discovered.

Document: pre-WWII blues, country, and gospel with a bit of jazz and miscellaneous music from my parents' and grandparents' generation. Bonus, they have an internet radio station, Document Wireless Radio. You can get a link from one of the streaming url web sites that you can copy and paste into any application you have that plays internet radio.

Fantastic!, thanks, as this is a new discovery for me.

I shall be checking them out.

Mute records: Erasure, Depeche Mode, Moby, Nick Cave, Einsturzende Neubauten, Recoil, Goldfrapp, Anita Lane, Mick Harvey, Yazoo, Fever Ray etc

4AD : a wide range of interesting indie bands and musicians.

Some of my favorite music labels:

Ruf Records
105Music
in-akustik
2xHD
Sound Liaison

Blue Thumb. All Day Thumbsucker is a nice anthology.....

Defunct Seattle label, 'Up Records'

Up Records was the original label for Built To Spill and Modest Mouse.

I recommend the LP, Get Here and Stay by Up label mate band, '764-HERO' to fans of BTS or MM

Another defunct label, made me think of J-Bird Records. Mainly thru Funk Kin for me.

I can't seem to find a way of streaming this via my Yamaha music cast internet radio function, or via my Wiim.

The only link I could find is this:

Any other way of streaming it please?

As someone who spent much of their formative years in the grubby suburbs of Scotlands capital, Postcard and Fast Product are labels that will always put a smile on my face. Alan Horne's Postcard being the home of Orange Juice, Josef K and Aztec Camera while Bob Last and Hilary Morrison's Fast Product (and its offshoot Pop:Aural) was the original home to Fire Engines, Gang of Four, Mekons, Scars, Human League, Boots for Dancing and even, somewhat bizarrely* The Dead Kennedys. I much regret never seeing Fire Engines live at the time but not many people did since, if I remember rightly, they only played about half a dozen gigs in total. Saw many of the others several times. The sound of young Scotland indeed ...

*) ... which reminds me Some Bizzare was a pretty good label too.

Fast Records out of Auld Reekie (Edinburgh) were definitely ground breaking. They released Gang of Fours first single in 1978.
Love Like Anthrax and Armalite Rifle being two of the three tracks on the single.

Still my favourite two tracks by them, and remember I pretty much wore out my copy due to excessive play back when I played vinyl many years ago.
Still got a wee "I'm a Fast Product" freeby promo badge outa Bruce's Records, Rose St. somewhere...

1964 FANIA records was formed releasing new Latin music records until 1998. If you've heard about exciting records like those of Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Machito, Joe Cuba, Johnny Pacheco, Mongo Santamaria, Eddie Palmieri, Johnny Colon, Tito Rodriguez or Ruben Blades among a number of others then it's likely they were a FANIA star.

Their website still functions and as the below screen shot "Playlist" category shows it lets visitors stream assorted Spotify and Apple music playlists curated around FANIA content for free. I don't know the audio quality. If you've interest in the genre but not sure where to start you can use it to sample songs for making a vibrant personal playlist on your own music streaming membership.
