Recommended Dacs for PA5

You are right about that.

After some testing the EX5 starts to grow on me. (Using a K812 & HD800)
I will be comparing the Mojo , Ex5 and M300 MK2 this week. With proper Cables and voltmeter Check.

Will be updating the thread then.

Got the EX5 used on amazon.

I got to test the M300 Mk2 (+L30) vs the EX5 for 20 minutes yesterday.

The EX5 has better depth and seperation. Sound is more balanced

The M300 MK2 has a lot of hiss and is not very "3D". Bass response is more to my liking but thats the only positive thing.

Tested with AKG 812 and HD 800. Checked with voltmeter

I will get the XLR - TRS cables today. Maybe this will change somehting.

Is that hiss sound a defect meaning you have a dud that needs replacement?

I think that the hiss of the M300 Mk2 is because of using the mediocre cinch out.

I Received the Xlr to trs Cables.

I dont know why but there is No Sound coming Out of the speakers?

Has the pa5 a Special Connection layout?

Press the Line Out button on your EX5 remote. O-3 enables both RCA and XLR outputs. I can't remember if O-1 or O-2 is XLR only

Currrently testing both dacs.

They do sound completely different with the horn speakers.

The M300 much more mid focused, the Ex 5 much sharper , almost annoying.

The M300 measures worse, the EX5 better.
I am pretty confused now

Still sighted, with apparently tons of bias. Not even close to "fair", IMHO.

After level matching with your voltmeter, have someone else switch between them for you where you can't visually identify which source is playing. Then make your observations. Curious what you'll make of the differences then. See if you can correctly identify which DAC or filter is playing then. If you belive the differences to be obvious, shooting for 9/10 right is a good target.
