As a Mix and Mastering engineer I have come to rely on my "A" set of speakers; Neumann KH310s with a KH750 Subwoofer. They translate extremely well in my control room which has been acoustically tuned using GIK Acoustics; 17" Soffit Bass Traps, 5" Cloud panels and 5" Absorption everywhere else.
My challenge is finding a great pair of "B" monitors. My budget is ~$4,500 for a pair and I have been looking at the Genelec 8340s, the PMC Result6 and the Dynaudio Core 7 and Core 5 line. My Sweetwater SA is pushing the PMC Result6 pretty heavily but my concern is the specs on power. I believe they have 100 Watts for the woofer and 65 Watts for the Tweeter. I'm concerned there will be issues with a lack of headroom. The Genelec 8340s seem like a strong choice but I worry about the rear port aspect. I do have a 3rd pair of speakers I use, the Genelec 8320s and the GLM Kit does wonders with tuning them. I just don't know if getting the 8340s is the right move either. My desk and speaker stands would bring the Genelec 8340s to within 8" of the front wall but slightly below the GIK panels on that wall. Both of the Dynaudio selections I mentioned above are front ports which is appealing. Both have plenty of power as does the Genelec 8340s.
Also, I use a Coleman Audio M3PH MKIII Monitor Controller. I'm hoping I can get some solid advice here. Thanks in advance for your time.
