Recommend a DAC

Hi all,

The system in question is a Wiim Pro Plus (Streamer & DAC) -> Marantz PM-11 (amp) -> KEF LS 50 Meta & REL S2

I'm considering an upgrade of the DAC, and I was wondering for any recommendations that will have a noticeable upgrade in the sound.

I have at most about 1000 Euros. All types of DACs are welcomed.

The DAC in the WiiM Pro Plus has not measured as state-of-the-art but as very close.

I do not believe there is another DAC that will give you a noticeable upgrade in sound.

If you have a balanced input on the amp (looks like the Marantz has one), it's worth it in my experience to get a DAC with balanced outputs to avoid possible ground loops.

Spend it on an amp with room correction and a better sub. Orders of magnitude more impact on sound quality than any DAC would make.

Get a WiiM Amp Ultra, sell the pro plus and Marantz, spend the rest on a decent subwoofer. But there are plenty of other options out there..

Thanks for the suggestion. The Wiim Pro Plus has a Room Correction, is the Wimi Ultra's better? Also, any decent sub to recommend?

True that. If the WiiM is your only source than that is probably fine. No need to replace the amp just make sure to actually use the room correction

OP already has room correction in the Wiim Pro Plus and a sub... and upgrading the DAC here is probably very pointless.

If I had $1K to spend on this system with no further information, I'd either get another sub, a few bass traps, or both.

When I have more than one sub I like them to be the same... so in your shoes I would sell the S2 (since it is discontinued) for hopefully around $500-600.

With $1600+ I would get 2x RSL Speedwoofer 12s, 2x SVS SB-2000 Pro, or two of something similar you can find used locally. I guess it depends on your room. In a small room 2x SB-1000 Pro can be more than enough!

Or you can look around for a second S2 secondhand and pair it up with your existing one.
