Not sure if this is germane or not (it is brutally n=1 anecdotal!) but when I was a sophomore in college I weighed 296 lbs (134 kg). As I type this (approaching 5 decades later), I weigh about 168 lbs (76 kg).
Wellllll, if you dare to go down that anectodal alley... so will I: This sophomore weighed 150lbs... at my peak, I weighed 160lbs... and 5 decades later, I am 155.
My Levi's 501s from that era (31x34) still fit me, although their inseam have either gotten longer or my bones shrank.

Or perhaps your joints packin' down ... gravity can be a b!tch, over time. ;)
Seriously, though, and on topic: Good for you!
Self-control has never been one of my strengths... all y'all have probably noticed that over the years.

Working through the articles on Peat’s website is like doing an ultramarathon through quicksand. Actually, the ultramarathon would be preferable to reading Peat’s solid text block word salads with outdated research and lots of scientific mumbo jumbo. The vast majority of the citations Peat uses to back up his claims are rat and cell studies, and most are extremely outdated (many from the 1960’s).

Is Rational Wiki a credible source?
are you a credible source? that wiki has plenty of links to more primary sources, so you can decide for yourself. Peat's theories don't pass scientific muster, though, and his adherents (I've encountered dozens of them over the years) secrete the unmistakable scent of religious zealotry.

If I threw away all of the studies I still wouldn't be able to deny the results.

Although I had done a lot of training before, just 2 weeks in and I can comfortably throw around guys 100lbs/50kg heavier than me in judo matches for multiple minutes at a time.

I am literally the strongest person at my judo dojo and I'm not very big.

Even when I consume HUGE amounts of pure sugar at once I don't gain fat weight because of the Randle Cycle.

And this is just 2 weeks in without having touched the various exotic pro-metabolic supplements.

There is no bear case for Ray Peat here!

What a coincidence! I’ve been following the opposite of the Peat diet for just one week and while I’m only 4’11” 103lbs I beat up six heavyweight boxers all at once every morning before breakfast wearing nothing but a straight jacket and swim fins!

Maybe there's a psychological aspect? Even if we accept the transformative abilities of the diet it seems physiologically impossible that you would actually gain so much strength in just two weeks.

OMG, a Ray Peat thread on ASR! Did I wake up in a toxic graveyard surrounded by reanimated fad-diet zombies!?! We should all smoke tobacco too, it helps with focus and acuity. Peat admitted he ate oatmeal late in life. Kind of like Jim Jones quitting Kool-Aid right before the end. ;)

Good grief, came here to fight audio snake oil and got reminded people do way more toxic things with their lives than waste money on expensive cables.

These days it's referred to as bioenergetics, there are tons of people who share this point of view. I myself do, I'm carnivoe-ish but get about 150 grams of carbs a day, from fruit and some honey/sugar. Some of the basics are

1. Hormones have a large impact on metabolism, cortisol especially, stress, lack of sleep, are problems
2. Seed oils are not healthy in large amounts, and most people on the SAD get waaay too much
3. Food is not just about calories, but it carries nutrition, focusing on calorie reduction can be an problem
4. You want a high metabolic rate, dieting and fasting send signals of scarcity and result in down regulation of metabolism

It belongs on a different forum. We have enough debates on audio here, without involving people's personal health, and all of the associated FUD. Peat was a controversial and dangerous quack. Debates about his diet and the falsehoods and anti-science that surround it have no place here, and belong on forums that are equipped to moderate a debate about health issues.

The other off-topic threads on ASR are mostly hobby related or tech related. This is neither.

if it doesn't interest you, don't participate...so why would you care?

Nice discussion, and it will never end ...
I'm for myself back on topic ASR, after visiting this .. uhm... branch..

Indeed. Why is this here? What has it to do with Audio Science or Engineering. Whilst I'm not a fan of heavy moderation for off-topic posts, sometimes it's necessary.

S.

This is in an area of the forum called "other areas of interest". Anything goes.

Doesn't stop the OP being complete nonsense though.

It's very similar again to ASR where the mainstream shows almost zero interest in research based approaches to hifi audio.

It's the exact opposite of ASR. ASR follows mainstream established science against the subjective hifi Guru based approach. Your man seems to have set himself up as the Guru in opposition to established science.

Or can you point to his published peer reviewed papers, in the appropriate (mainstream) journals?

I recently learned about this guy called Dr. Ray Peat who over the last 50 years did countless research on our metabolic systems.

Well, as it turns out, he has a cult following, and I am now doing the "Ray Peat diet" and it's incredible. Essentially, if ASR aims to get truly unopinionated hifi audio, then Peat's thesis of bioenergetic living is like truly unopinionated hifi health. It is based entirely in research and zero old wives tales and yet is still the contrarian view to the mainstream like ASR is in audio.

So how does it work? The basic idea is this: Peat discovered that the root cause of most ailments and aging is a slow metabolism. So how do you increase your metabolism? There are lots of ways, but the best way is a diet consisting of high amounts of simple carbs (like sugar), a moderate amount of protein, and low fat (especially no PUFAs [seed oils, nuts, fish]). You also cannot combine fats and carbs together because of something called the Randle Cycle where carbs receive digestive priority, leaving fats to go directly onto your body.

But a high carb low fat diet is only scratching the surface. He also emphasized the importance of vitamin intake and hormone management, and for some, that means going nuts with supplements including regular vitamins but also real exogeneous hormones too.

So why isnt this more popular? Simple. His work is entirely in decades of academic research papers and newsletters and emails to readers and the various Ray Peat forums, and because the mainstream is nearly illiterate, only those going scorched earth with health have shown interest. It's very similar again to ASR where the mainstream shows almost zero interest in research based approaches to hifi audio.

Since joining the Ray Peat club a couple weeks ago I have suddenly had an insane amount of energy every day. For some reason I have needed hours of napping every day since last year but not anymore! Also I have put on incredible amount of muscle and am almost bodybuilder status.
Did you do a double blind test?

Again, it's not in your area of interest, don't participate. I don't know why you guys are getting spun up about a discussion....
