The 3rd Harmonic is dominating at lower frequencies. I'm not sure if that deep bass can sound really satisfying. I don't let those 6.5" play too low in my setup.

I wonder why not use one 10- or 12-inch woofer with a dedicated 4-5.25 inch midrange from Purifi in a 3-way design? You get better directivity, better IMD, lower harmonics <50Hz with the 2nd harmonic dominating (again, better IMD, a "full" subjective bass).

Aren't those spikes going into the magnet holes? I thought those holes were used to ventilate the back side of the motor.
Monitor Audio does the same, though.
 
I see that these use AMT tweeters. I remember hearing those many, many years ago and being very impressed; I didn't know they were still around. Just wondering about the bass-midrange: is it better to have 2 smallish wide-range drivers or larger bass and smaller mid? Is it just about having a nice, narrow cabinet? Anyway, I'd guess that these are hard to beat for £7k.
AMT style speakers have indeed been around for a number of decades. They've always been slightly esoteric, but have made a comeback in the last decade with multiple manufacturers.

They're also strong with the DIY crowd on the slightly esoteric, more costly side. See AMT style tweeters

A bit on the pricey side. but I have to give Radiant Acoustics credit. They matched a relatively expensive tweeter to a very expensive set of mid woofers. Some of the finest mid woofers available from a distortion standpoint, and also very costly.

They have managed to generate a 6.5" TMM that is genuinely clean down to 30 Hz. But, you can see the unit fall apart sonically below the port resonance.

Still, for this kind of money, a three way that is clean to 20 Hz is the goal, isn't it? even active with a bit smoother linear response and DI.

So, it falls into the fine but not great category.
 
As for tilted up highs, my ears are plugged from mowing our dusty field. But I could not detect excessive treble response.

Consider wetting the field beforehand.

the steel rods are fastened into the bottom steel plates of the woofers (threaded). there is no ventilation hole on the pole piece. ventilation is done by holes in the cone below the dustcap. the steel rods help terminate the Newtonian forces of the woofers in to the heavy steel plate on the back. This reduces the vibrations that otherwise can radiate from the box.
 
Are we going to see reviews of the Clarity 4.2 and 6.2 here? They only have a single woofer and cost considerably less, enough for a high quality sub. There's still money wasted on those passive radiators. This is something Ascilab got right, offering a CB version.

The Clarity 6.2 might sport the same AMT and waveguide as the 66, the 4.2 has a smaller AMT with a mini waveguide.

edit: I take that back. The 66 has some vertical lamellae, sort of a linear version of the tangerine waveguide, that the 6.2 does not have,
66 and 6.2 share the same waveguide with the fins

The weight doesn't add up:
88 lb = 39.86 kg
46 kg = 101.54 lb

any ported or PR loaded speaker gets in trouble below the tuning frequency. this is because the excursion rises fast.
Indeed given the unloading of any woofer below resonance in a ported system. So ~30's for a port tuning is pretty good. I mean, yes, this speaker is impressive in that it is a 6.5" based TMM that is more or less full range to 30 Hz. This is very challenging given the constraints of 6.5" drivers. Kudo's to the design team of both the speaker and the purifi unit.

My only contrarian point that I think you could engineer a three way with slightly deeper bass, say with the Purifi PTT10. It could be active, allowing the choice between higher output above 30, or extreme low bass with some active switching and still have a similar price point.

In the end though just different engineering preferences.
 
The speakers are probably really good. But I wonder why manufacturers still make passive speakers today in such a high price range. The same speaker would be better technically and sound-wise as an active version with full digital amplifier modules.

Sample size of one.

I perceive passive loudspeakers work longer before needing repair than power amplifier modules.

I accept the potential for less accuracy with a passive loudspeaker and rely on external EQ,

Especially with a loudspeaker the price of the Radiant Acoustics Clarity 66.
 
would be nice but active speakers are sadly not an easy sell to the hifi market. they eliminate expensive cables and several other electronics boxes. somehow consumers don’t value all the electronics inside active speakers

While interesting, that would be a wildly different speaker from a design standpoint. We wanted to make something that could actually easily fit into most “normal” living rooms (with existing gear) and still provide deep, clean bass and a truly distortion free mid-range.

I think the 66s challenge the status quo of what a relatively small, passive floor standing speaker can do when it comes to performance and distortion… without costing an arm AND a leg. But then I am not really objective :)

That's exactly it. Unfortunately. I Googled it: active speakers have been in recording studios for over 50 years. Such speakers have been the standard there for at least 25 years. For good reason. They're cheaper if you factor in the integrated amplifier and at the same time better. But home HiFi fans just won't adopt the technology. It's been that way for so long. It's a shame.
