Radiant Acoustics Clarity 6.2 - Purifi based compact speaker

Some really cheap film capacitors inside these speakers. I think these are the cheapest film capacitors money can buy right?

They aren't. Bennic is an established Taiwanese parts manufacturer of over 40 years and quite well regarded among speaker builders. That XPP series is a few dollars per piece. Not exactly the cheapest possible option for a few cents each. Looks like a solid choice.

Fair enough

BTW I heard them at the Dutch Audio Event 2024 last weekend. Powered by a TDAI 1120. They sounded very good, had a clean and open sound, impressive tight and punchy bass response (though little real sub bass). One song with a female voice was pristine, so pure and clean it sounded. This song was it:

They were demonstrated by Peter Lyngdorf. People in the back of the room just couldn't stop talking during the presentation, SHUT UP please. Disrespectful to Peter and the people who wanted to listen to what he had to say. Only when the music played, most of them finally zipped their mouths.

With U.K. shows it is much easier to hear because hardly anyone attends.

I only see fairly low cost components, eg sand-cast resistors. Crossover pictured shouldn't cost more than ~$75 from what I can see.
You can probably assemble it for 75 moneys yourself, by cost of parts, yes.

That's because you don't expect to be paid for your qualified development and skilled assembly labour.

Finally had to register here to chime in as a long time lurker... I found it extremely amusing that you're complaining about "cheap" capacitors on Audio Science Review, which is a community that is based on science, rather than status!

The Bennic XPP series are considered as premium capacitors in the no-nonsense audio world.

It's also reassuring to see @henz directly state, "All components in the crossover were selected based on thorough objective measurements and subjective listening tests." This is exactly how speakers should be designed.

Finally, let's be honest here — 2 Purifi woofers, 2 custom AMTs, and 4 passive radiators, all packaged in a well-designed speaker, and delivered to your door for 4000 EUR (including all local taxes, btw), is exceptional value. Especially when you consider the pedigree of the people and companies behind the project.

There are some ( and soon to be even more) superb designs utilising the Purifi drivers.

That was my plan all along, to lure people into joining ASR

What do they sound like?
I know another ASR ‘no-no’

You wouldn’t hear anything if you used your eyes.

Some more stuff, an absolute beast of an aluminum slab for the back panel.

R&D didn't factor into the original comment that the crossovers alone cost as much as some speakers. I kind of eye rolled when I read that because I saw nothing on the board that would make these crossovers expensive.

That comment was about "entry level" speakers, which are, what, 200-300 moneys the pair? You can certainly get okay speakers easily qualifying as "hifi" for that price these days.

Factoring in development and construction etc., that seems a perfectly reasonable statement.

I've criticised this speaker and its performance for the price before, and harshly enough so, compared to older options. Now you're just exaggerating unreasonably.

I just said the original comment wasn't factoring in R&D and you're reply is to just say the same thing you said before? OK then.

Does the R&D get condensed and injected into the caps or something? Whatever.

In the Deep Dive PDF, they list the "break-in time" as 24 hours. I wonder whether there is some logical reason for that, or whether they have decided, for business purposes, that it is necessary to pander to prevailing subjectivist notions.

Jim
Probably the latter (I hope).
