One of the pioneers of psychoacoustics has passed away, Prof. Dr-ing Jens Blauert.
He started scientific research on binaural listening, HRTF, perception of ambience and understanding localization as early as of 1969. His theory on preferred elevation angles for boosted narrow frequency bands, is regarded to being the first serious description on HRTF-related phenomena, and named ´Blauertsche Bänder´ after him. It is fair to say that this was groundbreaking work, laying the foundation for lots of audio-related applications such as binaural recordings, HRTF simulations, headtracking and (virtual) immersive audio formats.
