Just a heads-up: It seems to be in stock again at a number of webshops. It hasn't been available for some time, probably because an AKM factory burned down so no ICs were available. I wonder if they changed anything to the design. Have been using it in the digital domain for many years and very happy with it.

Quite possibly - the old AK4393 DACs can't be easy to come by these days unless they happen to have a bunch of them stashed away somewhere, those have been EOL for over a decade at this point. The ADC side of 2496s switched to Cirrus parts years ago.
