What camera are you using for the headtracking?

I have the inexpensive one that Edgar recommended. I find it kind of slow and it needs really good lighting to work. I sit about 10 feet away from it with no option to be closer.

I'd like to find one that works well in low lighting.

Im using "ELP Sony IMX323 Sensor Mini Night Vision Dome". I wanted somthing that will work in the dark. I would not call it fast.
Please post in the end what you have choosen.

How far away will it pick you up in the dark?

I'm sitting 3.5m away. The camera has "Infra red" mode. This is why it works in the dark and this is why I bought it. The problem with the camera is the switching noise when moving from one mode to the other. Also the quality is not top notch, the camera isnt center correctly in its housing.

Most cameras (especially cheap cameras which don't have IR filters) will work with infrared light. You can test this with your inexpensive camera by pointing it at an IR remote control and pressing a few buttons. You should see the IR light flicker on and off. If it works, consider buying an infrared lamp and putting it in your room.

There is no way my wife will let me put an infrared light in our living room.

What you want is an infrared light that emits no visible light. You could even use an infrared torchlight, they make these for night vision cameras. Something like this.

Bear in mind that eyes have low sensitivity in the IR region, but it is not zero. So I would point the light at the wall or the ceiling.

I got one from Amazon.

Is it plug and play or do I need to do something to the BACCH to install it properly?

I bought the above mentioned ELP Night Vision Dome. Works exactly as advertised. I sit about nine feet from it, and in almost total darkness, it tracks my head quite well.
I had to get Edgar involved to set it up. He hadn't heard of it but was intrigued enough to say he was going to buy one and test it.

Thanks for the recommendation tree.
