Qobuz or Tidal ?

I am new to streaming, difficult to choose between Tidal or Qobuz after reading about these two, I read more about problems than which is the best one.

Would the choice of streamer be a factor ?
My futur Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 have a preference ?

I listen to mostly classical music, jazz, blues and any good creative music but no hard rock anymore at my 68 years

I like Qobuz. My interests are also classical, jazz, blues. I think it's really a matter of personal preference between the two.

I too vote Qobuz.
My reasons are kind of political, I won´t tell them here.

Fortunately we don't need to decide for you. Try each of them on a free trial and see which one you prefer.
You are certainly more the target audience for Qobuz considering your genre preferences.
But in the end you may make a decision based on the software UI, or added factors like notes, credits and bios.
The streaming device shouldn't matter, but sometimes small quirks show up when you audition in your home on your system.

I’ve not used Tidal. I’ve had Qobuz for nearly a year and will be renewing my subscription. It works will on all my devices and WiiM streamers.

Whatever you decide, ignore any comment that implies "Yeah, streamer X did not have album Y available".
So buy it, I say - it's really a fake argument. None of us has enough life left to play any platform's entire collection, and be honest, 95% of what's there isn't worth listening to....

On other forums where I annoy a different audience, my take is that Tidal is more unreliable and makes more annoying changes to their apps, which, if you have a streamer, using an embedded app can be a big deal.

People often like the accuracy of "if you played that, you’ll like this" between platforms or the ease of use between GUIs.... I have no comment on that.

N.B. I'm not signed with any streaming platform, so no bias - just saying I observe what happens elsewhere.

I'm currently using qobuz and it's ok. I haven't tried tidal since I rage quit over mqa and how i couldn't get uncompressed CD quality. But I'm sure it's fine now too.

Qobuz has AllMusic reviews and metadata which i like. Works nice with WiiM.

It's easy to try either and to switch if unsatisfied.

Yes there was a bad taste left with Tidal's daft support for MQA - I see this on many other forums. They lost ground & credibility over MQA (not alone) but I think they are past that. Have they had big changes of ownership?

I’m on Apple Music. Mostly because I have the family plan anyway for other things, and it’s included Works fine for me. I also very much like the Atmos selection.

I would certainly consider Spotify. I think their interface is still one of the best out there, and nowadays also offer lossless audio.

I don't stream, owing to having a 55 year back catalogue, but yeah!
And lossless seems good, BS aside, because really, why pay for less than at least CD quality?

i think Tidal gives you 2 months trial period for 2USD . lots of time to thoroughly test if it's working fro you

I totally get why a UI that suits the user may trump all the other considerations. No pun intended.

I often try out all sorts of software and I'm surprised how often I do immediate "uninstalls" (and reg cleans) the second I think "Nah, they don't get it" with poor GUIs.

Funny, its all between Norway, Sweden and France here, unless you are en apple.

I will just go with Qobuz, to avoid spending time comparing with Tidal.

They have 2 subscriptoins but I do not think that I will be able

Both offer the exact same streaming quality. The higher tier just gets you a discount when you plan to buy digital copies.

Been using TIDAL family plan for quite a few years now (Sharing with a few friends and family). No significant complaints other than getting occasional messages on certain playlist tracks telling me they can't be played in my region after streaming them successfully for years. I'm usually able to source the track from another album to fix the problem.

Sound quality has been great (To my ears).

I had Tidal for 3-4 years and moved to Qobuz 2-3 years ago. I did not like the changes MQA to FLAC (or the other way around) and I believe that if you buy an annual subscription, Qobuz is (was?) marginally cheaper.
If it interests you, Qobuz has a weekly discovery magazine sorted by different genres.
