Purifi or Hypex air conditioning

Okay guys, joking apart! You must have experience of various purchasable options, for getting a cool enough bedroom through this infernal heat?

I keep hearing people talk about Mitsubishi and Daikin being the best; afaik I have a mitsubishi and think it does the job well. I do think there is room for improvement on the remote and ui, but that's about it.

What you need to know:

The internal volume of the room/floor that it needs to cool. That determines the power rating. (I have a 5kw unit for a room measuring about 5.5m x 10m x 2.30m)

I use it less than I anticipated, but during heatwaves and high humidity it's a lifesaver.

It's better to get a small airco per floor than 1 big one for several floors.

Thanks for that Marc. There seem to be a zillion options! My phone is pushing wonder products which don't need vents, or draining, for about £100.
You can't see how long they are guaranteed for. And of course, only available from one source. It's a 12 feet square bedroom. It would be great to get a good night's sleep!

12 square feet?? It's 4x3? Or 2x6? Are you sure you measured correctly? Or maybe dropped a zero?

For airco's to work well you need a unit that sits outside an a part inside your room.

(There are mobile units but from what I've heard from colleagues they don't work well because you need to get rid of the excess heat through an open window. And apparently making air colder compresses it which makes the hot air naturally come inside through the open window.)

I think it's a misunderstanding: A 12 feet <square room> isn't the same as a 12 <square feet> room. One is 12 x 12, the other may be closer to 3 x 4

Btw one other very cheap option to keep the heat out is hanging curtains outside on a shower curtain pole so that the sun doesn't reach the window.
This can be wedged between the walls on either side of the window and is apparently the way the Spanish keep the heat out (will hear from them soon if I'm wrong).
Ordered it myself to try it out.

Looks great, but only seems to work with sash windows, sadly!

Also looking for an airco. Portable ones seem very inefficient. From the split units, indeed Daikin and Mitsubishi seem to be "top-brands". Not only for quality and cooling (SEER) efficiency but also for...heating efficiency!! (SCOP). Which actually is more important for me.

Daikin is excellent, Panasonic too. I have two Panasonic ACs, one is about 15 years old, works flawlessly.

One other thing worth knowing is how loud an airco operates. Especially when it's in a bedroom.

I personally prefer whisper quiet anyway, but this is something that without having an airco, that may slip your attention.

Midea Portasplit's are the hot item here in Germany this year. At ~1000-1200 € a competetive offer between mobile blocks and split installations.

One other recommendation I'd like to give is foils for the windows. I have quite some with a lot of sun exposure. UV-blocker foil on the outside, 80% dampening, grey tint is what works nice for me. It's not getting dark inside by any means, but the room stays rather cool. Even with windows split into sections the work is not that big a deal. And they last many years.

Okay guys Daikin product fitted. On flat roof , with the indoor bit in the middle of the area above the window.
About Midnight, freezing our cogs off! Great!
Naturally will have to find out our best options!

By US standards, we have a small house. However the attic converted to our main bedroom was always 10-20 degrees different than downstairs, specifically in the summer with the sun on the roof. We put a window unit in but that felt like a patch solution. When we had the HVAC redone, we did a whole house for the already ducted downstairs but did a mini-split upstairs. Being able to appropriately heat/cool those 2 spaces differently at different times (and automated) has been a game changer. The only regret is not doing one of the Japanese brands; the company we went with didn't carry them, but we should have just went with 2 different companies for upstairs and downstairs units.
