PURIFI finally did a fully purified passive speaker design! The SPK 16 prototype is here - with a PTT tweeter

Possible, actually kind of easier than coming up with a good way to attach fabric, but demanding on the user.
With a bit of lateral thinking you can trap fabric between two parts of a waveguide or make an external mount to do the same. I think this looks pretty good, but then I'm biased as it was my idea :)

Yeah I think most likely it will be something along these lines, although I want to have it wrap around the edges if possible...

Could someone point me to the CNC plans page please?

damned if i can find them.

I asked Gemini 3 to copy the colour of the speaker cone and use it to paint the speaker…

Anybody?

… and when asked to make the image 500mm longer so I could see what it looked like as the floorstander it should have been.

I give in.

And this one just looks bulbously deformed. Couldn’t have it in my home. Assuming it’s the final version? The baffle looks like it has elephantitus.

As previous advice suggests the new tweeter is the one, I may have to save a bit more for these.

I have ordered 3 kit sets, now looking for an enclosure manufacturer… Having heard it in person is a big motivator ;)

Three? Impressive.

Are you in Europe? If so this company makes bespoke cabinets. It’s worth a query perhaps.

They seem to be set up for CNC manufacturing.

Ps, where did you hear them? They must have been convincing.

Hurts financially pretty deep, trust me :) But I heard the prototypes at Munich and waiting for the design to be finalised hurt even more. And had enough time to part with some stuff.

I will sure explore the option of the ready cabinets, depending on the price of course. Might sound pretentious but I don’t like the red/black box with elephantiasis…

I’m going to have to sell some stuff too I think. Whichever I choose.

Definitely not a fan of the the red/black thing.

Though that may not be finished and it may not end up those colours I imagine.

I’m inspired to spend by your obvious confidence too.

March Audio he. .

I'm also not the biggest fan of the red black bulbous Purifi enclosure; the kit version seems fine. Funny because I don't mind the woofer surrounds

Ah. Took me a while…

It also took me ages to get used to the surrounds I must say. I still don’t actually like them.

And I also think if there was a way to hide the screw/bolt heads I’d grasp it quickly. Hidden bolts do make any speaker look much cleaner imo.

But these are all just aesthetic points, and I’ve long since resigned myself to the fact that there’s no perfect (imo) looking speaker, so I have to be happy with anything that’s not outright hideous.

Unless I design my own from scratch of course.

Now that would be a belly laugh. And doubtless sound like a bag of spanners battering a Banshee in an echo chamber.

I am OCD about audio. Having a design by the engineers behind Purifi, a design that is down to the bolt washer, backed by measurements and simulations makes it a no brainer for me. And I do own a KEF Blade One Meta and a JBL 4367, having heard the SPK16 I am also confident proper engineering works. If it doesn’t work - it is not the SPK16…

we just updated the filter for the Munich version and mounted the latest production tweeters. driven by two 9040 amps and signal from our new DAC (hush hush still a secret). Shocking sound!
