PURIFI finally did a fully purified passive speaker design! The SPK 16 prototype is here - with a PTT tweeter

Asked randomly at chinas version of Craigslist and got a quote. But workmanship is obviously unknown. And there’s the matter of crossover and assembling it all.

the cabinet option we will offer is not a wooden flatpack but a cabinet molded in a stone composite material. we showed these at Munich 2025.
Very interested in this cabinet, waiting excitedly.

I asked 3 CNC companys, one cant help me for the next 5 month because of other work, one just sayed no, cant help and one did not replyed yet, still waiting. It seems to be Not that easy to find someone and i have no idea about a Price yet.

Im curious about the flat pack Purifi mentioned. Wondering about the possible Price.
I get the same impression. Too small a job perhaps?

Looks like it might be the flat pack if it comes to that.
I would advise looking for companies that already mill or build enclosures for speaker kits.
Companies that haven't done this before will initially struggle.
You should also mention the project and that there would be more interested parties if they also offer affordable international shipping.
A larger order volume would spread the machine setup costs more effectively.

Also, check out enclosure kits on eBay and in DIY speaker magazines and inquire there.
Alternatively, look in regional and national classifieds where people offer their services who own plate milling machines/gantry milling machines and are ideally suited for such applications.
Local makerspaces/repair garages might also be able to help.

Sounds very interesting, Not easy to find Pictures or information, is it this one? @Lars Risbo :

If yes, can it used without the Stands?

Any additional information about aimed price and Timeline?
And maybe you could develop a magnetigc grill for the woofers, i guess there is a marked for this ;)
Thanks a lot for this Project!

@Roland68 my plan was to find a local joinery/Carpenter with a CNC. Thanks for the hint.

the stand and feet are included in the kit. price is TBD at this point.

Unless I can find a CNC guy by June I think it’s between the Clarity 6.2 and March Audio Sointuva for me.

I have made some progress on the printable design, will share an update once I have something that's at least 0.1 beta quality. I.e. potentially viable, if untested and unpolished.

My advice for those seeking CNC help in the meantime is to maybe look for "maker spaces" nearby. In Chicago there's a place called MHub with proper tools and they could put you in touch with a technician to do the job. In SF oddly enough I would try the Randall Museum which is nominally for children but has a large wood milling table in their workshop. If there is such a facility near you, it's probably halfway between finding a random person on Craigslist and a normal commercial shop.

You can also call timber wholesalers or their sales representatives in your country and ask which of their customers might be suitable for something like this. They often know their customers well and could be of assistance.

Especially wholesalers who sell plywood and MDF.

I have little faith in Ascilab having any stock at a given time. Hope they get better at it.

There is stock now of every AsciLab model apart from the BX8C which will arrive soon.

Rare enough to be highlighted, but the UK is the best served territory when it comes to Ascilab's product availability outside of SK.

Any chance of grilles on that?
I think a grille is a little bit like ketchup on a fine steak in this case, the tweeter dispersion is too nice... That said, I have a young child and an aesthetically inclined spouse in my house, and so I'm going to see if I can add a magnetic grille to a 0.2+ version of the printable cabinet.

Hardly. Nothing says “canned music” like visibly moving drive units.

I’d be fine with the coherer protecting-ish the tweeter and circular grilles over the woofers and PRs though. Neumann style sculpted grilles would be really nice.

Possible, actually kind of easier than coming up with a good way to attach fabric, but demanding on the user. 3D printing a fine lattice like that is doable but your printer has to be really dialed in, and/or you need to be using a 0.2mm nozzle which many people don't, because it's slower. With very fine but also large-scale structures like that, the print can easily come out ugly or fail.

On that, I just meant that with how much effort has gone into getting the high frequency directivity the way it is, putting a grille in front of the tweeter is probably going to throw things off. :)

In my case I think it will throw things off less than letting tiny fingers close to the tweeter...
