PURIFI 1ET9040BA Buckeye or Audiophonics

I bought a March Audio P482 amp last December and I’m more than happy with it. Initially, I was looking at a Benchmark AHB2 but thought I should consider class D amps. I was influenced by a member here on ASR who did a brief compare between Buckeye and March Audio. His take was they had the same performance; one was cheaper and the other one had a nicer finish.

Form factor was a key criterion. I guess I could have rotated the Buckeye 90 degrees but that seemed like a hack. I did not want to build a new stereo cabinet to allow more depth. The Benchmark product is considerably more expensive than either class D amps and the March Audio product was a little less expensive than it is now.

I do not have a personal relationship with any of the manufacturers that I was considering so that was not a consideration.

If I were to buy a new amp today I would choose the March Audio P801 monos as endgame.

Their case look cool, but from what I’ve read they are not the best company to deal with!

The company is very easy to deal with and I have never had a problem. I find his prices fair and he has always delivered earlier than promised and I had sequential tracking notices.

Not worth $800 more than Buckeye amplifiers
Which is why buckeye amps sell so well—they are cheaper than almost all competitors. He has done well.

Different Opamps, different power supplies, different gain adjustments, customer support, time of delivery from ordering.

Don't overlook Boxem

ARTHUR 5523/E1

The Arthur 5523/E1 includes the boXem stage III input and gain stage design. It is based on a composite OPA1612/OPA1656 operational amplifier ensuring both ultra low noise and ultra low distortion. In my opinion, it's a step above most Purifi gain stage offerings.

Did you compare them?

I won't comment on any specific company (including mine) but will point out that it has been discussed in great lengths on ASR how OP amps, when implemented properly and within their specs, will not change the sound.

In that same breath, input boards fall under a similar umbrella. Unless there is a fault or blatantly bad buffer board design, the measurable differences that are shown between the different offerings on the market will be inaudible. That's not to take away from any one who makes a superior measuring board over another...but like nearly all things for this level of amplifier performance, the measurements are already well below any threshold of human hearing difference.

Hi do you ship to the UK? Will the UK get a different power voltage? The UK using 230v or 240v I think
