PURIFI 1ET9040BA Buckeye or Audiophonics

Uhh, we use the same SMPS design.

He can call it custom but it's Micro Audio. Ask him about it and he'll likely say something like "I don't want to disclose our build details because others will try to copy us"
Is MicroAudio's PS line invariant? Genuine question!

You are not alone in this regard. I have done a few other repairs for others who did not buy in North America. Audiophonics is no longer an option anyway. March may be fine notably if you are Australian. Not sure if US folks pay a tariff on his products now. I ordered a SMPS recently and got hit with a $40 tariff.
Yes, US folks pay a tariff, even though we had a trade surplus with Australia!

I would like to also recommend March Audio from Australia. My monoblock arrived in 12 days. Australia is a free trade country with the US. I also had 3 NC1200 monoblocks from March that continue to perform well after 5 years.

My 9040 from them is dead quiet and produces no heat and is a solid build quality.
I was comparing the prices between March Audio and Buckeye and to be honest almost a $1,000 difference in price with the shipping doesn’t make any sense!
Yes, I like March Audio cases better but not gif that much money!

The size of the amplifier is huge! Why such a big box for a class D amplifier?
Honestly I don’t care nor mind. They simply sounds amazing and effortless, driven by Benchmark LA4, even in low gain mode - ultra quiet, loads of headroom. Isn’t that all that matters?

There's not much extra space. You don't want it too crowded for heat disipation

Their dimensions are roughly 10"x13.5"
Our dimensions are 10"x13.5"
They appear much smaller apologies! Also could you please comment on these points

“Buckeye have inferior power supplies which don't allow them to achieve the full power out they claim on their web site. They also have inferior input buffers which are far noisier and higher distortion. The performance and sound of the amps are dependant upon far more than just the Purifi modules. Plus of course our cases are in a different league to the Buckeyes.
We also fully technically test our amps after manufacture. Something Buckeye has admitted they don't do. Our strict quality control means we can offer a 5 year warranty as standard,”

Apparently Alan feels like he can say whatever he wants in the safety of his bubble (i.e. his own forum).

There is a reason he has been banned on here and also why he won't ever submit his products to Amir anymore. And it has nothing to do with his claims that Amir is "out to get him".

- Our power supply absolutely achieves full rated output...and then some
- Our amps will sound identical to his, those few dBs of measured differences are well below any audible threshold
- If his case means paying $700+ more, go for it
- We do fully test our components and he is taking my words out of context to make an exaggerated claim

Alan loves to exaggerate and flat out lie if it means making him appear as superior. The ego is strong with that one.

Thank you, to be honest his comments turned me off completely, plus being in the US, I would be greatly concerned if the amplifiers had any problems.
Also, I would not mind paying $200 more for a CNC case but not $700!
So with that when I need to replace my amplifier it is likely that I will become one of your customers ;)

This kind of sniping turns me off completely. I was interested in one of his products, but now will strike them off my list.

@Buckeye Amps That's funny, I didn't know you frequent the MA forum too, you must've seen the response when I had queried if it were possible to update the photo of the SMPS pictured of MA amp products for that little bit extra transparency but no such luck, I understand there is no obligation too but it's still a little frustrating all the same as an MA customer as I'm keen to see the updated SMPS design :), I mean every other Hypex/Purifi OEM assembler/manufacturer is forthcoming in that respect concerning the chosen SMPS product.

Pardon my asking, but why would anyone buy March audio over either of the manufacturers in the OP?

A while back a member on here was cross posting (and linking) to the MA forum about us in one of our own industry threads so I was introduced to that world.

But I don't want to derail the OP and turn this into an industry discussion so I'll leave it at that.

@Mort Well I'm from Australia so that is part of the reason, I wanted to support a local player & I appreciate Alan's technical expertise of his buffer designs & I wanted a non-Hypex SMPS solution & I'm a fan of Sami's Micro Audio SMPS products, so why not support both! ;)

If I was in the US, then there would be no reason not to support Buckeye Amps, Dylan is such a wonderful guy & with products that provide such great value for money. :)

I bought 3 March Audio NC1200 monoblocks before Dylan began his company. Alan was also a solid member on ASR at the time. I bought one 9040 monoblock from March (& a dual mono from Apollon) because again Dylan had not released his 9040 yet.

Alan’s products have been error free so far and arrived prior to the promised build time.

Their case look cool, but from what I’ve read they are not the best company to deal with!

Just $800 more expensive for the same product, it’s not worth it from my perspective

Right that makes sense. Glad you had that experience
