Exactly! Some of us just prefer the artisanal, hand-crafted route to suboptimal sound. Nothing beats spending three weekends and $$$$$ to discover that my particular flavor of distortion is slightly more pleasing than the one the engineers baked in at the factory.

Well, I’m happy to answer questions.

This was supposed to be a proof of concept (not representative of actual cosmetics and performance) of an active speaker to bring to axpona and survey people about their interests in products like this and the idea of products like this from us. I can post the flier we made with some details if you’re interested in giving feedback.

I’m armchair quarterbacking since I am not in the market for any speakers, so I am a bit like Homer Simpson designing a car. That said…

A big challenge of active speakers has been power management. Specifically, how do you run the power cables and audio cables in a thoughtful and convenient way? What if you wanted the active speakers in a hybrid music and movie system?

For me, PowerCon passthrough and 5-pin 48V audio from the pro audio side have been the answer. It’s easier to run long runs of XLR audio to a common source while daisy chaining a 20A PowerCon cable from a single outlet on a single 12V trigger.

5-pin 48V lets me run active speakers with “nearly” the same convenience of a traditional amp/speaker combo, but now having all the magic DSP in the speaker.

HDMI/CEC and soundbars make people want simple power on controls rather than having to manually walk up and turn on amps, or running a nest of 12v triggers.

I tend to hate HDMI power control. I've got a fairly complicated HDMI connected system and sometimes things drive me nuts trying to finger out why
the TV powers down when playing files from my PC, Apple 4k streamer, Xfinity cable box, 2 BluRay plays, more. All HDMI connected.. I try to turn most of that Off but every now and then a firmware update will override my settings. Gives me a freakin headache. LOL

I had to turn off CEC to get my universal remote to work. The worst offender is the CEC in the the TV FWIW.

I have a simple system. TV and AVR. It still doesn't work properly. AVR turns on with TV - doesn't turn off.
