PS Audio FR30 speakers

My feelings precisely, Richard. Let's see how it turns out when folks get their hands on them. PSA could focus on performance as you suggested. I would rather they focus on reaching the goal of affordable performance for all their other products. In my career I helped many companies who became overconfident with success and overreached. Most were family owned companies with few effective checks on planning and decision making at the top.

Making superb speakers, and making them well, is no trivial matter. Aside from performance, it is the customers of companies that overreach that end up paying the bill through higher prices. PSA recently raised prices, ostensibly to pay for the higher costs of parts and shipping. I've no doubt that what seems like two years of developmental delays for the FR-30 cost a pretty penny.

I personally would not buy a PSA product at this time. As a former customer, I am highly disappointed with the promise of an exceptional speaker at a reasonable price that never came. An entry level PSA speaker may eventually arrive, but I am not holding my breadth.

But that's me. I hate to see companies on a downward slide and I hope that does not happen to PSA. I hope there are enough wealthy audiophiles to buy FR-30s and the speakers can get them closer to audio nirvana. Meantime, I continue my nirvana journey through very competitive products that cost far less.

Possibly the most boring ugly design of a speaker ever. It needs to sound infinitely better than it looks.

I'm pretty sad they abandoned plans for a built in servo sub. They must have totally redone the design at some point.

I like the look of them but I'm a sucker for white equipment in general.

Annoys me that companies go to all the effort of a fancy web page with lots of pictures but no measured performance data.

if they are so confident in the product where's the harm in showing that?

confident enough to not showing any, you know, they must sound right;)

Those look really large. Does anyone know if Paul is a dwarf? Is the correct term little person? He could use that speaker as a weekend cottage. Just kidding, aside from the lack of measurements and super high price, and the impossibly high listening position, they are cool looking. Hope to learn more about them but I’m not in the market for a pair of these. The ensuing divorce would cost me way more (I might have to move into the speakers or at least the shipping boxes. Chicago is too cold for that sort of thing.

The specifications say that the speakers are 60.5" high, so the tweeter would not be as high above ear level as it appears in the photos.

Maybe I can convince my friend to pull out the Mercedes one of these days for a quick cruise up to Boulder. We live in Colorado Springs and Boulder isn't too far away, except for the fact that you have to drive through Denver and that sucks...

I hope you can make it and report back.

Go around it, we do. Prettier and not much longer, especially if traffic is high. I25--to H85 to I470 then H93 and slide in the back door.

The only thing I can say is it is a total redesign for sure and I am not a fan of it's looks , apparently it looks better in the flesh. The pricing is 10 k more than projected(6 years ago) but that happens in many projects . The planar drivers have been very difficult to get a consistent quality and hopefully at 28k that is spot on - no where to hide at this price point. The bass system is doubtful for me as well - why not do a Devialet active system, Cabasse or similar hi tech approach even if licensing that tech . Look at the https://www.cabasse.com/en/the-pearl-pelegrina/ this beast cranks out 130 db plus all day long. Anyway just a couple of examples of a very hi tech approach to bass that leaves passive radiator tech in the dust
I commend PS Audio on USA jobs not Harmon sacking US work force and charging a premium for slave wage Indonesian Labour . I hope the speaker project succeeds but I wonder how the Planar midrange handles the lower end of it's range - crucial for that to be really low in distortion but I have my doubts if they have solved that

Huh? What difference does PSA have to do with Harman? The FR30 is being completely made in China.
