Proper Metal music (no pony tails or choral crap)

While I'm still warm on the subject... what do you guys think about OSI?
A quick listen (ok, ok, Spotify... but renders well) that made me love them (late, yes, but who cares?)

Do you agree?
I'm not a fan, and many wouldn't consider it 'proper' metal, but don't let that discourage you - it was meant as a joke. It's a moving target anyway, and I don't believe trying to classify everything is very useful - the most interesting stuff tends to stomp all over traditional boundaries so the press have to create a new class for it.

Thanks; interestingly enough, because I classify my LPs by genre (which becomes very daunting after a while), I don't keep Linkin Park anywhere near the other "metal" I have collected (which, because I don't have much, gets lumped in with my "Classic Rock" LPs). To me, they belong with more modern classifications of music -- so, when I'm ready and have enough vinyl for this section, I will place Linkin Park in a "Modern/Alternative Rock/Nu-Metal" variant.

I was asking the member who replied with "Exactly," but I appreciate your viewpoint; I didn't think their material was so different as to not be suitable for this thread, but I took a chance in posting it. I don't listen to much metal, and don't recognize any of the bands being discussed in these pages (I'm in the States), but what I do listen to falls in the category of the old cheesy stuff always heard on the radio (Def Leppard, Metallica, Van Halen, AC/DC et al).

Seems like this thread is geared more towards really hardcore, almost underground stuff, so I don't have to participate again.

I agree about these two albums -- I have them both on CD. I was a huge Linkin fan, since they came out, as I was able to relate to all of Chester's lyrics in most of the songs, and it's an absolute tragedy what happened to him. I saw this "best of" collection in a local store and picked it up, as it summarizes just about everything good they put out. I haven't heard the new stuff with their new female lead singer.
I'm a full born and bred American as well, though, for whatever reason I've always loved more euro sounds. Not just metal, also love bands like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Kraftwerk, New Order, and a whole lotta unknown industrial bands mostly from the UK or Northern Europe.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Kraftwerk twice, once in the 90s, once a few years back and their shows are full experiences (only original member left alive is Ralf Hutter). Depeche mode I've seen like 4 to 5 times.

All I have to say is wow. This is not my favored music, but figured some of you might dig it.

This is a thing that really annoys me. But since I have the pre-1995 (or 1994?, anyway, the whereabouts, as we all know) editions, I am still able to enjoy the pre-CD-loudness-war dynamic range...

It was decently nice out so I had my windows partially down. I'm half expecting someone to say "cool Halloween music!" to which I'd think to myself "... Err.. I just been on a Dimmu Borgir kick the last week, this is my normal year round music..."
