got an email from Fosi support that is easier to read for anyone still needing to do a manual firmware update

You can manually update the firmware using the steps below:

  1. Go to https://support.fosiaudio.com/products/s3/user_manual/firmware/b622 and download the latest firmware package
  2. Open the Fosi Audio app and go to “My Device”. Record the device IP address (the string of numbers shown below the device name).
  3. On your computer, make sure it is connected to the same network as the device. Open a web browser, enter the IP address in the address bar, and add /settings.fcgi at the end (as shown below).

  4. Press Enter to access the device’s debug interface, then find the “Firmware Update” section and locate the “File” field.
  5. Click “Select File”, open the extracted firmware folder, and choose the correct region folder.
  6. Select the firmware file named image.XXX.swu, confirm the selection, and wait for the update process to complete.

Going to take the streamer to friends house who has faster cable internet and see if problems vanish.
results are in........not one hiccup at friend's home hooked up wirelessly. Did not even have to go to hooking up by wire. He has the same type of ASUS AI mesh routers. Difference is his internet speed is up at 400Mbs. Just checked mine.....88 currently...
And yes I get it that SHOULD be enough.....but it ain't.

Do the ASUS mesh routers have a frontend or app to view in real time how strong the signal is from any given mesh unit? How close are the mesh units together in your house? How close to the streamer?

However, if you were still seeing issues over wired ethernet, then you have something else going on there. Very strange indeed.

Routers have phone app that shows signal strength at each node and warn if it is no good or approaching no good. With only 2 routers in house they had to be close together to achieve good signal strength between them. Which left other parts of the house with poor or no wifi connection. I placed 2 more throughout the house so now have pretty good coverage throughout. I'd say 30' average separation between routers. Like you say why am I having problems over wired connection?
I am going to switch from Viasat to Starlink, it is my last hope to get good enough internet to solve my problem.

Why do you use routers and not cheaper access points? Just curious.

No good reason I suppose. Just going with recommendation of a friend that knows a lot more about this than I do. I did try an access point a while back and it did not work consistently. Perhaps I needed several for it to work better.

I spoke with my friend again about the AI Mesh routers. He said in his educated opinion extenders would not work as well in a house the size of mine. And especially being constructed out of concrete.

With Amazon Music on an iPad as the source, I’m trying out different streaming protocols; AirPlay and Bluetooth both work; but with Google Cast the song doesn’t progress. When the iPad and S3 establish a connection via Google Cast, the S3 plays a chime. For several minutes the S3 app says, “Casting Amazon Music,” and the Amazon Music app says it is connected to/playing on the S3. However, the audio stream itself never actually plays. After a while, Google Cast is disconnected. Has anyone else seen this?

Alrighty then.......got Starlink installed today.....Fosi S3 streaming now un interrupted. Even with 3 phones doing other tasks on network and my laptop. Happy Camper here.
@yuting

Now to move out on patio which was my original intention and get outdoor system up and running.

working on patio...I'm ecstatic, vibrating heavily, bolts about to come loose.
Now to get wired ethernet connected to mixer and have wireless control of mixing board working out there also......

Ok, I think my problem is resolved. Am not sure if the source selection was the cause, but I made sure to set input to NET this morning and Google Cast works now.

Yes, it's BT paired, so don't have to point at the streamer. The gripe is the BT switch has to be turned on via the app and then re-pair/select the remote.
Just so you know, the Bluetooth remote does go into sleep mode when the S3 is powered off. But you don't actually have to manually re-pair it through the app or anything. When you power the unit back on, just give it a few seconds – it'll wake up and reconnect on its own. No extra steps needed.
