This thread is for anyone and everyone that has a Fosi S3 to note the problems they are having. The first thing I would like to see is count of how many cannot do a firmware update. I am #1
 
I am taking my S3 to a friends house on Tuesday. We will get it up on his network and see if it behaves.
 
I have left my S3 up and running along with the router it is connected to for well over 24 hours now. No automatic update.

Does Fosi not have downloadable files you can load by, for example, from USB stick?
 
Offered? Does that mean there are no files in the support section of their website?
 
let me snoop around...I have been going back and forth with them for days. I thought they would suggest i go to their website and get a copy if they were available. But I am ignorant.
 
No you're not.
They are ignorant as they have not fixed your issue.

Yes - extensively covered in a recent thread. One question is why the support team talking to the OP don't know this.

Ok, not all vendors support their product updates in the same way. Sounds like you'll have to wait to get OTA updates.

A last ditch trick is to change your default DNS server IP address (given to your router by your ISP) to a public one, like cloudflare's or Google's etc. It has been known that ISP supplied addresses are their own local DNS which may be filtered. I never use the ISP default myself.
 
hmmmmm... I tried 1.1.1.1 (cloudflare) per @formdissolve 's suggestion and lost connection with the S3. Had to restore defaults and start from beginning to get it back.But perhaps I did not do it correctly, i am ignorant when it comes to this stuff

It was in any case, a longshot idea - best practice though...

Just to be clear, you changed the DNS address in the router only, right? You'd have to reboot the S3 and any PC or phone on the LAN too, so the new DNS address in the router was propagated the S3 and other devices via DHCP.

(And by the way, never use static IP addresses in any device on your LAN, always use "pinned" addresses, whereby the router serves the same IP address over DHCP to all your non-portable devices based on their MAC addresses).

If this is baffling, I'm happy to step you through it.

OK, in order to change the DNS address in the S3, my guess is that you had to set it to not use DHCP, which almost certainly would have been the default setting. Risky, because you'd be forced to set up other things that don't need changing.

If you didn't know, all DHCP does, in a nutshell, is to set up devices on the LAN with a bunch of IP stuff that lets the devices talk amongst each other, and to communicate on the internet. On a home LAN, all these details live in a single, central "DHCP server" that serves the IP gubbins to each "DHCP client. At home, this DHCP server runs in your router box. In turn, your router connects to a different network that is part of your ISPs network, and it gets its own IP details for using the ISP's network, in a similar fashion from server on the ISPs network (I'm simplifying). Part of what your router gets from the ISP is thing called a DNS server address. All the DNS is about, from your point of view, is a means to translate a human-rememberable name, such as google.com, into an IP address, by looking it up in a big database.

All clear so far?

Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to point a browser from a phone or PC on your LAN to your router and find the page on its internal web server that deals with internet networking. That's where DNS and more will be found - normally set to "automatic". This is the place where you override that with the 1.1.1.1 number - as a test. Nothing destructive will happen. You can set it back to automatic later if it's not helping.
 
yes it is set to: Get the DNS IP from your ISP automatically.
So change it to manually set to.....?
Looks like it wants two if set manually.
