I mean looking at it from a manufacturing view.
They have to pay people to build a box with woofer, tweeter, electronics, etc..
Pack it up in a box.
Send it out.
Pay for a place that all of this occurs.

I mean you are getting fairly low quality reproduction, but how is it even possible for such a low price?
My point exactly. :)

My god, it's a bit crazy that they call them both "reference monitors" and "studio monitors" on their website when they've got frequency response like that. Ok, they don't cost much but you shouldn't really go bandying about terms like "reference monitors / studio monitors" for such an item!

The more intense the "audiophile lyric", the more caution is advised (IMHO).
"Reference" can be anything, an abysmaly bad speaker can be referred to as an example, how not to make them :)

True, I think my K702 headphones have "reference" written on them in more than one place, and they really do need EQ to sound normal - but I think they're very good with EQ so they got saved, but yeah "reference" occurs everywhere!

Especially when these 'Micca MB42X G2 Budget Speaker Review' https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/micca-mb42x-g2-budget-speaker-review.60712/ manage some quality and dignity around the same price, this is really inexcusable.

I know they're passive so it's not a fair comparison, but these presonus basket cases are performing like they sold you the amp and threw in the speaker for free.
These speakers are powered, not active, so they have around the same level of meaningful control as a passive speaker with some rudimentary EQ.

Has there been a review of the Audioengine A2/ A2+ speakers? As desktop speakers I've always considered them to be pretty good. I bought a second pair a couple years ago because I'm afraid that all the other desktop speakers will be terrible...and the baby genelecs were more than I wanted to spend for computer speakers.

I've never measured them, though... I've had both versions. I'm not sure if they are actually that good, but the first time I really experienced a stereo image was from listing to a pair of A2s years ago.

First time I bought a pair they were like $150, but alas, everything gets more expensive! At $279 they are not exactly direct competition to the presonus...

I'm 100% confident they get trounced by the first gen iLoud Micros.

This makes me appreciate my edifier MR4's. My word.
Exactly, but to be fair, the MR4 had a higher starting price than this Presonus (and still does).
I bought a used, lightly used pair of MR4s for $40-ish, and I've thoroughly enjoyed them as desktop speakers thus far (with a little EQ).

Obviously a terrible speaker, but it's $89 pr. I would say first and foremost: Plug the port, and do some eq. Should lend itself to EQ below 1000 hz pretty well. And, of course, put it on the desktop and don't play it too loud.

I really think if Danny got his hands on these and worked his magic we could have something rivaling the mid level Kefs, Revels and Ascis.

As always, a great review, Amir.
Yes Danny connections and Mills resistors really do make a difference

I use them as PC speakers at work, due to their compact size, accompanied by a subwoofer.
They're an option for multimedia speakers.

This is still one of the cheapest speakers in its class. In my country, the Edifier MR3 and MR4 are respectively 17% and 26% more expensive. I've had the MR4 and especially after getting a sub was quite fond of them. Ultimately though, they were too bright sounding to me, especially at higher volumes.

If I were to start over today, I'd rather pick the MR3. MR3 has an adjustable high-pass filter and Bluetooth connectivity (and a BT app for small sound adjustments), so it should go well with a cheaper sub that doesn't have high-pass filter (like Edifier T5). Also, no ground loop issues (if both sub and speakers use a 2 pin power plug), so no spending extra for balanced DAC and cables.

I have Presonus Sub8 BT and I think it's the cheapest sub with a pass-through that also has an HPF and it's been quite fun using it in my setup. This one is hard to recommend for the asking price

Thanks for taking the time to review these @amirm.

It looks like PreSonus mailed it in, hardly an effort towards decent. But maybe you saved some poor soul looking at possibly buying these from wasting their money.

$109/pair for these?

Ah, for the days of 2018 when my friend bought a pair of Polk T50s for one Benjamin. One of the better values.
