Hallo to all. I use a hypex class D amp that i connected to a RME Adi 2 dac. from my mac mini i stream qobuz. Works really lovely. but i have a Rega planar 6 with Orthofon Black stylus sitting here. i didn't think i would be interested in playing records anymore because the sound is really good to me. My son does not want me to sell the turntable and certainly not the vinyl. now what to do? i found the Nuprime Pra-9x preamp that has phono amp and RIAA. does anyone have experience with that? thx for your thoughts.

send @Michael Fidler an email about one of his phono stages

Thx, guys, I will take a look at it next days. Getting late here in Belgiium. Have to look into DSP and contact Michael Fidler. Cause i don't undertand how his products can help me, but that is probably because i have not got enough knowledge. In anny case I know now that there must be a way to connect my turntable to ma RME. And that is great news. Thx.

RME make the best preamps imo so you want to keep that as the centrepiece of your system and get a phono stage with a digital output so you can run it into your DAC

I use waxwing but there are a few options that are a lot cheaper

Hey @woug68 fellow Belgian here :)

This seems like an ideal use case for the addition of a WiiM Ultra. It has two analog inputs: line-in and phono-in (compatible with MM and NC cartridges). The analog inputs are digitised. This will allow the turntable signal to run through the volume control, eq, room correction (all optional) + to send it to your RME DAC eventually, but you can set the ADC to a high resolution. Mine are at 24 bit/96 kHz, which is probably overkill, but most importantly: I find the phono input to do a very respectable job! Sounds clean, transparent and natural.

As an added bonus, the WiiM Ultra supports Qobuz Connect so it will be picked up as an endpoint by the Qobuz app on your phone/computer for bit-perfect playback over network. You can have the WiiM connected to the RME over optical/coax and leave your Mac Mini connected over USB if you like.

I'm using mine connected directly to a DIY Hypex NCx252MP based amplifier. So the Ultra acts as a complete preamp - with volume control.

Arghh, choises... Pieter, sent you a DM. At work now, feel a headacke from learning new stuff coming... Thx for the guidings young audio padawans, may the force be with you.

IIRC, ADI-2/4 PRO has a high quality phono input.
You get all-in-one. And pleasant IR remote, BTW.

I would compare the resultant costs for all these proposals/solutions.

No it does not have a phono input?

Just a pair of XLR/TRS combo inputs - probably with a good ADC yes, but no RIAA section.

no RIAA section.
Are you sure ?
It is not a classical analogic RIAA section, but the processing is digitally done.

(I agree that the ADI series terminology is a bit confusing...)

I believe the black edition does not have riaa. The 2:4 pro Se has riaa. At least so te the spokesman says in the video on their website. I guess they are working on a new series as they are no longer available. Will be a very interesting used market case… although there won’t be many offered I guess.

you’re best getting a phono stage with a digital out and running it through your RME imo

You get all the flexibility of your RME as your preamp and the ability to use mm and mc carts along with physical controls of a separate preamp.

I use 2/4 SE but there are a lot of advantages to using a separate phono with a digital out into a DAC

There is a review of Adept here

It certainly looks an impressive piece of gear
