pre-amp with no off switch!

Hi

I've got an Ayre preamp that has no off switch. A few times the fuse has blown if the mains has tripped. It's having to be repaired as the last power surge bust a board.

What are my option for getting a decent surge-protector device that has a 'safe' off switch ? I am a bit wary of turning it on and off at the mains socket but perhaps this me being silly ?

I don't see why this remote wall switch wouldn't be fine. It is turning the main power on and off, but then so is the switch in a preamp with an off switch.

Or since he seems to be having trouble with surges, there are SPDs with remote controls such as this one.
